MediaTakeOut.com just received word of a DISTURBING piece of information. Every year in Brazil they have Carnival, a parade of festivities which showcase beautiful SCANTILY CLAD women.

And every Carnival, they have a "Queen Of Samba," which is the SEXIEST woman at the parade. Well this year, the Queen of Samba is a 7 YEAR OLD GIRL, photo'd above.

Here's how the Associated Press is reporting it:
She is the Shirley Temple of samba, a 7-year-old named to a coveted Carnival role normally reserved for barely clad models who have undergone more plastic surgeries than little Julia Lira has seen birthdays.

Naming the girl drum corps queen for the Viradouro samba group is raising eyebrows even in a city that has seen everything during the annual mega-party that begins next week

The courts are now trying to BLOCK her from participating in the event. What do you think????

Girl dies in freak accident

February 9, 2010
Started By jubalson3 Comments

WESTERN BUREAU:

More than 24 hours after four-year-old Javon Jathan's twin sister had died in a freak accident, he was still holding firm to his belief that "Nastacia gone to the doctor and soon come back home".

Just before twilight, Javon was with other children on a playing field at Mint Road, Grange Hill, Westmoreland, where his sister had died, totally oblivious of the fact that she would never return home again.

Nastacia, Javon and other children were playing a game about 4 p.m. on Sunday when an old, rotted goalpost dropped on her head and pinned her to the ground.

"I was at work when I got a phone call that my stepdaughter dead. I met them on the way to the hospital, but I knew she was already dead. The doctor confirmed it as soon as we got to the Savanna-la-Mar Hospital," said Hasani Malcolm, as his eyes welled with tears. "I have been their father ever since they were babies. Before I left the house Sunday morning, I called Nastacia, gave her a kiss and promised to take sweet for her when I returned from work."

prescription drugs

Nastacia's mother, Stacey-Ann Henry, was too devastated to speak. She has been on prescription drugs since Sunday's incident.

Kavelle Drummond, Nastacia's 13-year-old cousin, said while the children were playing, they shook the goalpost. "Nastacia saw that it was falling so she tried running, but it fell on top of her," she recalls.

Since the accident the goalpost has been draped with black cloth. Flowers have also been placed at the spot where Nastacia died.

Malcolm, like other residents, said two other children had previously been injured by the same goalpost. A boy, 12, had his leg broken about a month ago, while another received approximately 20 stitches after he was hurt.

It had been reported that for some time the goalpost was being held up by a stone and piece of iron during football games, after which it was usually laid on the ground.

Inspector Sean Baker of the Grange Hill Police Station said no one had been held responsible for the accident, adding that investigations were continuing.

STAR grants boy's last wish

Cancer patient Gary Buchanan, 18, talks with Prime Minister Bruce Golding at the National Chest Hospital yesterday. - Ricardo Makyn

What could be the last wish of 19-year-old cancer patient Gary Buchanan was fulfilled yesterday when he was visited in hospital by Prime Minister Bruce Golding.

The youngster, whose sad story was first highlighted in THE STAR last July, had asked to meet the prime minister when THE STAR offered to grant him the opportunity to meet anyone of his choice last week. Less than a week later, it became a reality.

Prime Minister Golding and the Minister of Health, Rudyard Spencer, as well as other officials, gathered by Buchanan's bedside at the National Chest Hospital to offer kind words and to reassure him that they would do all that they could to help his fight.

The prime minister asked the youngster about school, his family, as well as general questions about his condition and how he was feeling. The youngster, who at one point, asked for his oxygen, was visibly touched by the visit and when Golding assured him that he would do all he could to help, and urged him to stay strong, his eyes filled with tears.

The prime minister said to him, "I know it must be tough, especially for a young man that was looking forward to a long, healthy life."

duty

After the meeting, Golding told THE STAR, "I felt I had a duty to be here and whatever way we can help, whatever we can arrange to give him some comfort, we are going to." He also assured the teen that he would be back to see him again.

Buchanan was diagnosed with cancer almost a year ago and was forced to amputate his lower arm after a cancerous lump was discovered there. Now, a few months later, the cancer has spread and doctors think his prognosis looks grim.

A surgical doctor at the hospital said a biopsy needs to be done before he can get treated, but in order for this to be done, he needs a tracheal stent, so he will be to able to rest on his back. He cannot do so now, as he will not be able to breathe. The stent is not available locally, but Golding has promised to help in acquiring it.

Buchanan was grateful and simply said, "I feel great."

February 05, 2010. MediaTakeOut.com showed you a video YESTERDAY, of VH-1 reality star Danger exhibiting OBVIOUS mental problems.

Well according to our pals over at TMZ, Danger is in trouble. After we posted the video yesterday, Danger's Los Angeles apartment MYSTERIOUSLY caught on fire. When police arrived they took her into custody, suspecting that she may have started the fire herself.

But they didn't put her in regular jail. Word is that she's in a SECURE mental health facility.

Get better boo!!

Uganda will soften its proposed anti-gay legislation, but the government denied on Wednesday that it was bowing to an outcry in the West over a controversial bill that could have seen homosexuals put to death.

Ethics and Integrity Minister Nsaba Buturo said the revised law would now probably limit the maximum penalty for offenders to life in prison rather than execution.

"There have been a lot of discussions in government . . . regarding the proposed law, but we now think a life sentence could be better because it gives room for offenders to be rehabilitated," he said in an interview. "Killing them might not be helpful."

Uganda, long a darling of donors for its stable economy and widespread economic reforms, has come under intense pressure from Western nations to ease its anti-gay stance.

Under the original proposal "serial offenders," and those who commit "aggravated homosexuality," faced a death sentence.

buju-banton-laughing.jpgA paradoxical thing in Jamaica is that we are so full of talk of badmanism yet when people come around to abuse us; we mumble, forget it after 7 days and move along. A strange state of affairs given our mouths almighty.

Since the advent of internet access at high speeds and file sharing sites; it seems as though dancehall and reggae record sales have met with doom and gloom. Just look at the measly sales of some of our so called big stars. No names necessary here. You know them.

Just recently, I scanned a few sites and file sharing is a big deal. As riddims are sent out promotionally to deejays, in a few minutes they are up on sites available for download by anyone besides persons in the industry and for sale by persons who do not even have a licensing agreement with the creator of the music: neither the writer nor music composer. As much as we feel that Japan and Europe are the last bastions of real aficionados of our music, they are also the hot spots for illegal downloads and sales. Check the internet if you fail to believe.

When the internet and file sharing gained prominence a number of persons locally were cynical and then they came around thinking it would further the music. Yes, but for who though? Certainly not the musical composers.
.
Alot of persons are not intimate with the process of music making and a lot of persons don't care. All they get is the finished product and maybe go to a party and hear a good joint, hear it blasting on the radio or get a hot mix tape and bop to it. That it is illegal, they generally don't care.

Ok so file sharing and illegal downloading might get the music out and make it popular; and might ought to be underscored here. A direct negative result of this is that our artistes have resorted to hustling out the business: overcharging on dub plates, overcharging for shows, collecting and not showing up, charging major dollars to voice a tune; only a few innovative ones like DI TEACHA' have gone into merchandising and product branding, VYBZ Rum anyone.

Vybz+Kartel.2.jpgWe really need to find some resolution to the loss of sales because when dubs are voiced hardly does an artiste return to a producer (who might also be the composer) and give him/her a portion of the dub plate money. Hardly is there an artiste who blows up big time and gets some shows who will return to music composer to say "see ah food ya"; so we really need a way to stem this bleeding of sales by inappropriate persons and the illegal distribution by unscrupulous persons.

We know how to crack any code to anything, certainly we can figure out a way to make it hard to get our music for free. One thing that some producers will do is send out a song ripped below cd quality or turn up some of the instruments such that there is some degree of distortion, but that does not reflect well on a producer. Encoding cds doesn't even really help except for air play detection overseas. Perhaps a brilliant Jamaican can develop the technology such that if you download a song or songs without paying for it, your computer crashes, your ip address is identified and if previous credit or debit card information of the user has been used on that same computer then deductions are made from them. How long are we going to bled of our creativity? Why do we stay on the downlow while they download?

KipRich - Contributed

It appears that dancehall artiste KipRich has now turned back on his decision not to clash music counterpart Merciless, or even appear on this weekend's stage show, The Settlement, set to take place at Links in St Thomas.

The slick-talking deejay, born Marlon Plunkett, is now demanding $1.5 million from promoter Tommy Thompson after previous media reports had linked the deejay to a potential clash at the event.

"My management and I are asking for $1.5 million. Him mus' can find dat easy, easy because a dead him bury and him dun seh him will do anything fi mek him show happen," said the deejay via the telephone.

However, an infuriated Thompson scoffed at KipRich's demand saying he would not consider it, as the deejay had allowed his ego to get the better of him.

In a story published in this newspaper last Friday, Thompson, who owns Brite Lite Funeral Home, accused theParty Time lyricist of chickening out of a potential clash, even though no real arrangements had been made between the two parties.

"My only conclusion, cause everything has been going on well, is that he's afraid of the possibility that a clash might happen. But the show must go on," said Thompson in a previous interview after KipRich had disclosed he wouldn't attend the event.

However, according to KipRich, after he initially agreed to perform a normal set, of the news of a possible 'lyrical showdown' began circulating.

He said this could affect his career negatively should he maintain his stance not to attend the show. "Mi would love to perform only for my fans yes, but when a man a put things ina di paper seh mi a run, mi haffi defend myself," he said.

lyrical showdown

The deejay believes that Thompson is trying to lure him into a clash by using the influence of the media. KipRich performed for free at Sting 2009 when he engaged in another lyrical showdown with General B.

But, the deejay said he's not prepared to make such commitments again. "Laing (Sting promoter) got a Christmaspresent cause dat (General B) duppy dead fi free, mi never get nuh money fi dat," he said.

He added: "But mi nah gi nuh man nuh Valentine's gift. Laing get a present but mi nuh gi man gift." KipRich also said he received a phone call from Thompson on Saturday morning regarding the numerous rumours circulating.

"Him (Thompson) call mi and a tell mi seh things get outta hand with di media and that he was upset with it because people been talking about it," he said.

The Settlement is advertised as the burial ground for graffiti artiste L.A. Lewis and deejay Mr. G as well as Queen Paula versus Lisa Hyper. Should Thompson reach KipRich's asking price, the deejay said he would be ready and waiting.

Thompson, however, said he would never pay KipRich such a sum. "He has never in his entire history worked for that amount. Why should The Settlement, a new event, pay this amount?" asked Thompson.

He added: "I would be unfair to everyone else on the show if I pay him that. That didn't even cross my mind because, ultimately, KipRich is not the main attraction on the show," he said.

Thompson said he would only pay that amount on one condition.

"Of course, he could make that demand. But, is there any logic in that? Where does the ethics come in all this? The only way I could consider that is if he could guarantee 15,000 (people) inside that venue. Then I would pay him like the $9 million," he said.

Kim

Singer Kym, formerly known as Gaza Kim, has officially ended her management contract with Adidjaheim Records.

A release sent yesterday by Kym's publicist, Ricardo Smith, stated that she wishes her former management team the best in their endeavours as she moves on to pursue her own career. In the release, Kym said, "Over the last eight to nine months, my career was managed by Adidjaheim Records. The Management contract has been terminated and I'm now pursuing independently my career."

She added, "I'm now focusing on driving my career and past events in my life have only made me stronger and more driven to achieving success."

Kym, real name Kim Hamilton, left the Vybz Kartel-led Portmore Empire a few weeks ago after reportedly being beaten in the 'Big Yard', a community off Mannings Hill Road, St Andrew. Kym was reportedly severely beaten and had to seek medical attention. In a previous story published in The STAR, sources close to the Empire claimed that the beating was ordered by Kartel. The deejay, however, denied any involvement in the incident.

Since then, the teenage singer has officially changed her name from Gaza Kim and has released the song Leave Mi Nuh. Gaza Kim became a member of the Empire in late 2009 and released songs such as Twice My Age with Kartel, Bills with another ex-Empire member Lisa Hyper, and Faithful with Sheba.

'I'm now focusing on driving my career and past events in my life have only made me stronger and more driven to achieving success.'

Jamaican authorities have acquired a list of the names of prisoners who escaped from the penitentiary inHaiti, following the devastating earthquake in that country on January 12.

An estimated 4,000 inmates reportedly escaped in the aftermath of the disaster.

Speaking with the media recently, National Security Minister Dwight Nelson said the names will help the Jamaican authorities in implementing security procedures to protect the nation's borders from Haitian criminals who may seek refuge in the country.

The minister assured Jamaicans that intensive investigations will be conducted to ensure that refugees are properly identified and that police will be assisted by interpreters in their interrogation.

Nelson continued that those identified as criminals will be placed in available spaces in the island's prisons.

Late last month, reports surfaced in the media that two Haitians, had arrived in Oracabessa, St Mary and had eluded the police who were chasing them on shore.

Recent information dispelled that claim however, stating that the men were Haitians who were already residing in Portland and not any that fled Haiti from Jamaica after the quake.

A police constable from the Oracabessa Police Station yesterday told THE STAR that according information reaching him, the Haitians were returning from a fishing trip when they were mistaken for refugees fleeing the

There was unrest at the Horizon Remand Centre on Spanish Town Road, St Andrew, yesterday after at least 200 inmates broke from their cells.

Up to press time last night, no official word was given on the situation. But while on the scene, it was gathered that the inmates broke off locks from a number of cells and made their way into a corridor and also set fire to a section of the facility.

The prisoners were reportedly upset about the poor conditions at the remand centre in addition to a recent change is security personnel and other measures.

More than 100 Jamaica Constabulary Force and Jamaica Defence Force personnel had to be called in to help bring the situation under control.

Head of Correctional Services, June Spence-Jarrett, was said to be in a meeting when contacted. The Ministry of National Security dismissed the incident as an escape attempt.

Sketch of serial rapist. - Contributed

Investigators from the St Ann police are on the hunt for an alleged serial rapist who has reportedly been terrorising women from sections of the parish.

The suspects name has not been released, but police have released a sketch of the man accused of being behind at least 14 cases of rape since last August.

The police said the suspect posed as a taxi driver before raping and in some cases physically harming his victims, all of whom are of slim build and in their early 20s.

on the prowl

THE STAR was further told that the man is wanted for other cases of rape reportedly committed in St James, St Mary and Clarendon.

Head of the St Ann police, Superintendent Gary Griffiths, could not be reached for comment; however, one source from the Centre for the Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse said, "Based on the number of reports we have, there is a dangerous serial rapist on the prowl here... . He is even wanted for rape incidents as far as St James."

Police said the suspect is armed and dangerous and is known to frequent Discovery Bay, Runaway Bay, St Ann's Bay and Ocho Rios, all in the parish. These area are where most of the incidents reportedly occurred.

Since last week, sketches of the suspect have been posted at several public spots in the major towns of the parish.

People with information on the suspect are being urged to call the St Ann police at 972-2373 or the nearest police station.

Ricardo Fuller - file

Jamaican international and Stoke City striker Ricardo Fuller was arrested on the weekend over what the Premier League club calls "an incident in a nightclub".

Stoke says that Fuller was arrested by police in the early hours of Sunday in the Hanley suburb of Stoke on suspicion of assault at the JFK nightclub.

He was later released on bail, pending further investigations.

A club statement read: "The club can confirm that Fuller was arrested in the early hours of Sunday morning following an incident in a nightclub in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent. We will be making no further comment at this time."

The Staffordshire police reported that a 21-year-old man suffered minor facial injuries after the alleged assault but did not require hospital treatment.

Fuller, who was part of the Stoke City team that defeated Blackburn 3-0 last Saturday, has been with the club since 2006 when he was signed for a fee of approximately £500,000.

He scored 11 Premier League goals in 2008-09 but has just one in 22 games this season.

This is not the first time that the former Tivoli Gardens hit man has found himself on the wrong side of the law after being arrested in early 2009 on suspicion of driving offences.

Despite the controversy, the striker trained with the rest of his teammates yesterday and is expected to be available to play against Wigan later today.

Fuller has over 60 appearances for Jamaica and has found the net on 11 occasions.

Reggae Boyz a hit in Argentina

Reggae Boyz assistant coach Bradley Stewart (left) gives an attentive eye to members of the national squad during theirtraining session at St George's College recently, ahead of their friendly international against Argentina tomorrow night. - Ricardo Makyn

MAR DEL PLATA, Argentina:

It didn't matter that the Reggae Boyz are here to play against their national team. As they emerged from thebus on their way back from training, man, woman and child, young and old gathered by the hundreds to greet the Jamaicans in front of the Hermitage Hotel where they are based in Mar Del Plata, Argentina, yesterday.

From a hug, for a real camera moment, down to a handshake, or even a touch, it seemed anything would do for the natives of the football-mad country against whom Jamaica's Reggae Boyz will do battle in a friendly international football match at the José Minella Stadium at 10:30 p.m. (8:30 p.m. Jamaica time) tomorrow.

Though surprised, the Boyz duly obliged under the watchful eyes of the police and security personnel, as they made their way through the thick, but happy crowd.

soaking up the moment

One of the players even had time to joke that goalkeeper Dwayne Miller was soaking up the moment too much, "posing for too long instead of just taking each picture and moving on quickly".

Jamaica Football Federation president, Captain Horace Burrell - who was one of the first making his way through the crowd - wasn't complaining, no one was.

Such lovely greeting was a real nice letdown to a hard training session the Boyz had to endure on a cool evening that had left head coach Theodore Whitmore somewhat pleased.

"Yesterday, we had a nice little blowout, a good training session. The players showed a lot of effort, a lot of enthusiasm," he noted of their first practice on Sunday, barely an hour after a near 26-hour journey by plane and bus.

"This evening we saw a more game-like situation training session and it has gone down well," Whitmore added. "We wanted to keep possession of the football and we wanted to close down our opponents more quickly and try to be more compact."

Were you pleased?

"In some sort of way - It was 11 against seven, but I'm somewhat pleased. Not all the areas we were satisfied with. Some of the areas we will walk through it tomorrow."

Specifically, the coach seemed most concerned about their transitional play, something that was not easily simulated due to the travelling numbers of an 18-man squad.

"I guess in midfield," Whitmore said, noting his concerns. "I guess because we didn't have a lot of players in midfield, we got the football and just broke away, I don't want that; and the defensive area, I don't think we came up quick enough in transition."

With a training session remaining this evening and another light one scheduled for the morning of the matchday, the coach wasn't quite ready to list his starting 11. But if the line-up in bibs is an indication, then goalkeeper Miller should start with Shavar Thomas, Jermaine Taylor and Adrian Reid his shield; backed up by Rodolph Austin, Richard Edwards, Lovel Palmer, Keammar Daley and Navion Boyd; operating behind Omar Cummings and Ryan Johnson.

MediaTakeOut.com just received some very SAD NEWS. Actress Eva Pigford and her fiance Lance Gross may be over.

Here's what popped off. Eva and Lance were in Miami for Superbowl week. The two attended tons of A-List parties together and even planned on sitting in one of the luxury suites at the Super Bowl.

Well, on Friday Lance and Eva were at an event and Lance was surrounded by groupies. And according to MediaTakeOut.com's snitch, instead of shooing away the thirsty ladies, Lance left his fiance for them.

The insider explained, "It was embar****ing, Eva was left to the side while he and his friends kicked it with those groupies. I felt so embar****ed for Eva."

To Eva's credit, the girl ain't NO PUNK. She left Lance THAT NIGHT. Ole girl hopped on the next plane back to Los Angeles and left Lance to enjoy his groupies . . .

Hope they can work this out . .

February 07, 2010.
MediaTakeOut.com just received a TERRIBLE report. Beyonce and her mother might be GOING TO JAIL . . . at least according to a recent lawsuit.

Heres what we know so far. Beyonce and her mama are being accused of engaging in shady deals with Vietnam companies that cost apparel maker Vier International $500,000.

Vier International owners claim that executives at a Bey and Tina's House of Dereon conspired to order shipments of goods from Vier Int. at bargain basement prices. The goods were then converted to House of Dereon pieces and sold at higher prices.

The fashion bible WWD is saying that Bey and Tina purchased cheap garments from the Asian company but requested manufacturer specifications so that the garments would not need altering before going to market.

Heres the good part. Vier International filed a claim under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO), the same law used in most Mafia prosecutions. Technically, if they win, Beyonce or Tina may face JAIL TIME!!!

According to the criminal complaint, the D.A. alleges Dr. Murray "did unlawfully, and without malice, kill Michael Joseph Jackson ... in the commission of an unlawful act, not a felony; and in the commission of a lawful act which might have produced death, in an unlawful manner, and without due caution and circumspection."

Former NFL star Warren Sapp was arrested by Miami Beach police this afternoon and charged with misdemeanor domestic battery stemming from an allegedly violent confrontation with his girlfriend.

According to the Miami Beach Police Department, Sapp is accused of attacking his girlfriend of two years at around 5:00 AM Saturday at the Shore Club Hotel.

According to the arrest report, the alleged victim had "a swollen right knee and bruises on the back of her neck."

She claims Sapp allowed her to sleep in his hotel room -- then came into the room early in the morning and pulled her out of bed. The alleged victim says they began arguing about guys she was hanging out with earlier Friday night.

Sapp's girlfriend told cops that during the argument Sapp "grabbed her and began to choke her." He eventually threw her out of the room, she claims.

When cops spoke to Sapp, he told them he had allowed the woman to stay in his room -- but later on decided he wanted her to leave because "he was expecting company." He told police he was trying to help her and she fell.

Sapp is in Miami for the Super Bowl and serves as an analyst for the NFL Network and on Showtime's "Inside the NFL."

The NFL Network released a statement saying they were aware of the incident and that Sapp will not appear on the NFL Network until they review the matter.

Sapp is scheduled to co-host an event at BED Miami tonight. They tell us they haven't heard about the incident and, as of now, everything is still a go.

Hip-Hop star Nelly has joined with DUB Edition magazine and Ford to create his very own limited edition 2011 Ford Mustang GT.

The vehicle was modified to adhere to Nellys personal style. It features a black gloss exterior paint job, 22-24 inch rims, Pirelli tires, and black racing stripes.

Inside, the DUB edition car offers leather trim and a JL Audio system equipped with two 12-inch subwoofers, rear headrests, a message center, integrated blind spot mirrors, and a programmable vehicle key.

The idea came to the St. Louis native last year while visiting the Fords design studio as part of a collaboration for the launch of Funkmaster Flexs Ford Flex. His goal was to create a vehicle that was an amalgamation of muscle car tradition and modern style.

I dont care where you grew up, everyone knows the Mustang, Nelly explained. At some point, youve had a conversation about a Mustang, and it was probably one about you wanting to get behind the wheel of one. Ive always loved the Mustang; the vehicle has power to the point where you cant help but want to hit the pedal. And the newest one? More power, more style.

Nellys Ford Mustang GT has a new 5.0 liter V-8 engine, which gives 412 horsepower and 390 ft.-lbs of torque.

The car is scheduled to be displayed prominently on the cover of the rappers next album.

Im itching to get behind the wheel of my Mustang and really take it out on the streets, Nelly said. This vehicle being a part of my album artwork is just a reflection of the direction and feel the album has. To be able to partner with Ford again on another vehicle that is going to change the automotive game is exciting.

At press time, Nellys DUB Edition Mustang GT is scheduled to debut this Spring.

Romain Virgo - Winston Sill

Romain Virgo will be making major strides next week when his This Love music video airs on US-based cable station VH1.

According to his manager, Dawin Brown, they have been in negotiations with VP Records, as the company is about to sign the budding star. During the negotiations, Brown said several songs from Virgo's catalogue were submitted to them.

"They said they were really impressed with the This Love video. Cristy Barber (vice-president of marketing andpromotions at VP Records) is kinda responsible for submitting it to MTV and VH1," Brown told THE STAR, while adding that the video is currently on the website for both stations.

All of this took place within a six-week period, Brown said.

"We just found out Thursday that it will be aired on VH1. So we are keeping our fingers crossed. We are just waiting for it to start showing," he said.

Virgo said he was very excited about the development of his career.

"Jah know, a one of the greatest feeling. VH1 and MTV are world stations. I think it's a good opportunity for the world to see who the true Romain Virgo is. I think it is a good way to bring me out there to the world," he told THE STAR, noting that the video was done during his 2007 Digicel Rising Stars journey.

But this is not the only thing he has on his plate. This week he will shoot the video for Who Feels It Knows It in Kingston and St Ann. The video, Virgo said, would "look at hard-working people in every environment."

He is also working on a self-titled album that will be released in May through VP Records. Virgo said it would have songs such as Caan SleepMurderer and several new tracks.

For the album, there will also be a series of promotional shows. And in the coming months, he will have shows in the US, Europe, Barbados, Bahamas, Grenada and St Martin.

"It will be a whole lot of work for the year," said Virgo.

A scandal of immense proportions has rocked a district in Mandeville, Manchester, with a 15-year-old boy in police custody for the alleged rape of his six year old sister.

The youth is expected to be formally charged when the investigating officers find the children's mother.

Police sources allege that approximately two weeks ago, the youth forced himself sexually upon his little sister at their home, while their mother was away. Although no family member went to the police, the matter was reported by a concerned citizen a week ago. The child was subsequently taken by the police to a doctor, who confirmed that the young girl was sexually assaulted.

troubling incident

"This is a troubling incident, as the accused is the eldest of five siblings (three younger brothers and the female complaint) and investigations have so far indicated that the children were frequently left at the home without parental supervision. We are now seeking the mother for questioning, and may be charging her as well," said an officer from the Mandeville Police Station.

After several attempts to apprehend the accused, police held him yesterday at the home. However, they have not been able to locate the mother during their visits to the house.

In the meantime, the police are warning parents that they will be held accountable in cases where they are thought to have neglected their kids.

"These parents must be made aware that they have a moral obligation to their children, and will be held accountable in situations where their gross negligence brings about harm to the child. We will have no pity or remorse for these parents, and the full extent of the law will be implemented against them," said the parish's top cop, Superintendent Lascelles Taylor.

A community in the Cross Roads area of St Andrew is now in turmoil and conflict after a woman from that area pinpointed a total of 19 men as the father of her baby girl.

Reports reaching THE WEEKEND STAR are that the woman accused all of the men, including three brothers and businessmen from the area, of fathering her child. The scandal, it is reported, has taken over the entire community causing frequent arguments among the men fingered and seeing threats being issued to the woman as well as her family.

A police officer from the Cross Roads Police Station told THE WEEKEND STAR that he was aware of the matter and said the police were keeping an eye on the community because of the number of disputes and threats that have erupted recently. "The issue of paternity is not really a police matter, so we are not concerned about that, but the disputes and the threats, that's how we come in."

THE WEEKEND STAR was informed that one brave man has accepted paternity of the child, but he has now become an outcast in the community with many calling him a fool. It is also reported that the man has been branded a "winter coat", an extreme version of the Jamaican term 'jacket', usually used to describe a man who cares for a child that is not his. A source from the community told THE WEEKEND STAR, "She approached him and he reluctantly accepted. But people are saying that he spends a lot of time outside the area, so he didn't really know what was going on."

The source said, "It's a big thing in the community man. A lot of people are talking about it and it is spreading a lot." THE WEEKEND STAR was told that several threats have been levelled against the woman by some of the men who want their names to be cleared. They have also reportedly threatened the girl's mother, telling her to ensure that her daughter stops talking about them. This, the source said, has caused them both to be living in fear.

The tricky situation has also reportedly caused the end of many friendships among some of the men fingered, and some have also been forced to face the anger of their wives and girlfriends, who are upset that their men have been caught in this web.

THE WEEKEND STAR was informed that for a while after the child was born, she was given no name. The woman, who is reportedly either in her late 20s or early 30s, also has another child.

Jay-Z has filed a suit against lenders he borrowed money from to develop a hotel in Manhattan.

The rap superstar is accusing Highland Capital Management LP and NexBank SSB of trying to bleed him for $3.7 million over a loan he took to build a new venture called the J Hotel, according to Reuters.

Hov reportedly bought the space at 511 West 21st Street back in August 2007 and took a $52 million senior loan, yet after the real estate market took a dive, Jay tried to give the land to the Highland instead of going into foreclosure.

In a complaint filed, Jay said the investment firm didnt take the deal, causing him to pay a sizeable amount of interest fees on the loan along with carrying costs. This action arises out of the efforts by defendants to bleed additional funds from [the] plaintiff, the paperwork read. Defendants embarked on a bad faith course of conduct.

Jay is seeking $3.7 million in damages, a declaration that would allow the property to be returned, and other remedies

The red carpet at the Youth View Awards not only had good performances but the artistes took their attire seriously, decked out in their finest, with the men, especially, making a huge impact.

Held at the National Indoor Sports Centre last Saturday, when THE STAR reached the event, newcomer Denyque was just taking the stage performing Can't Breathe. Dressed in black and white, the young singer made a statement with a bold ensemble. Also performing was STAR of the Month DeMarco who talked about his True Friends while the Merytal Family did their hit song My Money (Ha Ha)Music blared on the red carpet from DJs Cyrus, Kruddy and Shine who kept the vibe outside lively as fans lined up to see their favourite artistes arrive.

For the women, the look was 'young, hot and hype', as persons came out in mainly short dresses, excluding Spice in a long gold number, Mystic in black and gold and D' Angel in black and silver.

eye-grabbing

DASECA's Raine Seville stood out in a fun eye-grabbing green dress with black boots and a black hair piece. Ce'Cile also looked nice in a blue dress with black and white stilettos. Dancer Mad Michelle did a 'pirate' look in black with a black eye patch over one eye and host Teyana Taylor showed her Michael Jackson influence, sporting a jacket reminiscent of the late 'King of Pop'.

The men all wore suits. Aidonia looked well put together and changed in to a grey number for his performance. Beenie Man added a touch of red to his outfit while G Whizz, also in a suit, added purple to his. Host Chino came in a green jacket with a light-coloured pants. He changed numerous times throughout the night, adding purple to his catalogue for some of his outfits.

Producer Stephen McGregor, while not in a suit, was age appropriate in a red and white Romeich Wear jacket with white pants and matching cap. Elephant Man was bright as usual in pink and gold.

The red carpet appearances lasted for more than an hour as the show began shortly after the arrival of American group New Boyz.

]After her claims that Ray J was gay on Devyns Playground show in Burbank (click here to listen on RadioPlanet.tv), Danger called LAs Power 106 (see her Twitter convo on her page at @realdangervh1 from January 14 below) to let them know Ray J is NOT gay

This past weekend, Danger called into the Devils Advocate Primetime show on 92.5 KYHY in Burbank to re-state that Ray J is bi-sexual, confronted his sister Brandys comments toward her, and cleared up the confusion about which Young Buck she was talking about in her original accusation *whew*

MIAMI BEACH, Florida (AP):

The contrasts are stark: As Haiti grapples with chaos, death and despair after last month's earthquake, celebrities party in luxurious fashion in preparation for a football game.

Wyclef Jean - who has been an advocate for his native Haiti since the disaster - was in Miami for those celebrations this week, and understands that the festivities won't stop because of Haiti's pain. But he said he's partying with a purpose.

"(The) Super Bowl is Super Bowl. Super Bowl in Miami is one of the greatest Super Bowls," Jean said last Saturday, a few hours before his performance at Eden Roc as part of fashion website 944's weeklong Super Bowl bash.

"But something I love about Miami is like, they know how to party hard," he added. "But at the same time, what was incredible to me was, somewhere in people's head it's like, 'But let's not forget Haiti' at the same time, which is incredible."

Indeed, stars have spoken out about Haiti during this week of decadence and raised funds for relief aid. last Friday night, Jean joined top celebrities like Diddy, Queen Latifah, Justin Bieber, Mary J. Blige and former President Bill Clinton in Miami for the BET cable television network's SOS Saving Ourselves - Help for Haiti" telethon and concert.

Jean - who also was part of last month's Hope For Haiti Now telethon that raised more than US$60 million - said last Friday's event was key because it was "more geared to the youth."

"It makes the Haiti situation a little hipper in the sense of, when you have Trey Songz wearing a 'Yele Haiti' T-shirt, then his fans think, 'We can't forget Haiti,' or Justin Bieber," he said.

Yele Haiti is Jean's charity, which became the centre of a firestorm after the quake when financial irregularities were uncovered. Since then, Yele has gotten a new accounting firm, and Jean says the charity plans to introduce a new board in a couple of weeks.

"We've learned from the mistakes and we're moving forward. It's all about organisation," Jean said. "I think moving forward, we will be one of the greatest NGOs (non-governmental organisations) to come out of Haiti because of the fact that we're Haitian and we implement on the ground, and we know our people on the ground."

While Jean helps rebuild his home country - a task he believes will take 25 years - he's also still focused on hismusic.

"When you have drama, that's when you have the best music," he said, laughing. "That album's almost finished. I think that will probably be the best Wyclef album, because there's a lot to write about."

US relay team could lose medal

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP)

The IOC opened a formal investigation yesterday into a doping case that could lead to the stripping of goldmedals from a US women's relay team at the 2004 Athens Olympics.

The International Olympic Committee executive board set up a disciplinary commission into the case of Crystal Cox, who ran in the preliminaries of the winning 4x400 team in Athens.

The US Anti-Doping Agency said late last month that Cox had admitted to using anabolic steroids and accepted a four-year suspension and disqualification of her results from 2001 to 2004.

IOC vice-president Thomas Bach said he will lead a three-man panel into the case. Such a process has previously led the IOC to remove national relay teams of medals retroactively, including three US teams from the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

Under international rules, an entire relay team can be disqualified because of the doping of one member, even an alternate. Russia would move from silver to gold in the 2004 relay if the US team is disqualified. Jamaica was third.

Sanya Richards, Dee Dee Trotter, Monique Henderson and Monique Hennegan ran in the Athens final. Moushaumi Robinson joined Cox in the preliminary heat.

Good Samaritan covers burial costs

A woman sings over the casket bearing the body of Shania Davis, while mourners look on. After three months, Shania was finally buried yesterday. - Ian Allen

For the first time in almost three months, Monica Morgan may be able to get a good night's sleep.

After months of uncertainty, her 13-year-old daughter, who has been dead since last November, was finally laid to rest yesterday.

Last Wednesday, THE STAR published Morgan's story and appealed for help on her behalf. She explained that her daughter died from rheumatic fever but because of a lack of funds, she could not be buried.

concerned reader

Thanks to many caring Jamaicans, however, and especially to one gentleman from Montego Bay who donated themoney needed, Shania Davis was buried. Davis' family and friends, as well as onlookers from the community where the church is located, gathered at the Powerline Ministry Church of God in Spanish Town, St Catherine to say their final goodbyes.

When THE STAR visited, mourners were paying tributes in songs, while Shania's mother, who expressed gratitude to THE STAR and those who extended a helping hand, greeted others arriving.

The good Samaritan in this case is not seeking glory. He said he only wanted to be referred to as 'a concerned musician'. He donated $66,000 needed to bury Shania. He told THE STAR, "There was no point in me giving $5,000 and someone else giving $1,000, It would probably stretch out until Christmas and is only $66,000. We have to help one another in times of need."

He noted he was happy to help saying: "I'm glad I was able to help so she can bury her daughter and go to bed at night."

Shania was interred at the Commodore Cemetery in Linstead.

MIAMI BEACH, Florida (AP):

Miami's South Beach was swamped with celebrities during Super Bowl week. Whether they were hanging out on South Beach, mingling together at intimate parties or participating in some of the more high-profile celebrity events, they oftentimes outshone the football players during the sport's biggest showcase.

Here's a look at some of the more notable things seen, heard and observed leading up to yesterday's Super Bowl.

(MORE THAN) FASHIONABLY LATE: The Black Eyed Peas were more than tardy for the party.

The Grammy-winning band was the main attraction for Playboy's Super Bowl bash, which started around 9 p.m. But many guests had already headed out the door by the time the Peas rolled into the event around 2 a.m.

They may have had a better excuse than most for being late: The quartet had performed earlier Saturday night at American Airlines Arena for the second date of their The E.N.D. tour.

Nearby, another men's magazine - Maxim - was also holding court with stars like LL Cool J.

WEEK OF CELEBRATION: Rihanna had more to celebrate during Super Bowl week than most. The singer was still excited over her two Grammy wins a week ago.

"You never come down from that," said Rihanna, who won with Jay-Z and Kanye West for Run This Town.

"When you remember it, you're like, 'Wow, I won a Grammy.'"

Rihanna will switch from the music world to the literary world soon. She's finishing a coffee table book that will be out this year.

"It's like a look into my life, behind the scenes, what you don't really get to see, but also fashion shots," she said.

HEIDI'S LONG RECOVERY: Holly Montag says it's been tough for her sister Heidi to deal with all the critics of her massive plastic surgery.

Heidi - famous for her role on The Hills - admitted to having 10 procedures in one day to create her ideal look, including breast implants, a lip job, liposuction and more.

"She's being very strong and holding to her own morals and I'm very proud of her," said Holly, also on The Hills, at Playboy's party last Saturday. "She's the strongest woman I know. She's done a brilliant job."

Holly Montag also said her sister is still not adjusted to her new body.

"She was still just getting used to it and it's a long recovery time. It's several months," she said. "She's being a trooper about the whole thing."

CELEBRATIONS AND HEADACHES: Kelly Rowland wasn't one of the celebrities who popped into town for the Super Bowl. She lives in Miami, and like a lot of residents, was trying to grapple with the headaches that come with having the Super Bowl on your doorstep.

"I happened to come home during Super Bowl. I was like, 'Why is there so much traffic?' and everyone is like, 'Super Bowl!'" the singer said. "Nobody wants to drive. So I have to spend a lot of money for a car service."

Rowland - who shot to fame with Destiny's Child - said she's working on a new album with Akon, Ne-Yo and others.

PROUD MOTHER: Solange Knowles was a bit nervous when Rihanna and Jay-Z brought her young son Juelz onstage with them when they accepted their Grammy Award last Sunday.

"I was very surprised and very nervous when Rihanna put his mouth to the mic, because anything could have come out," she said last Friday. "But I was very proud as a mom that he used his manners."

Knowles also downplayed her tweets on Grammy night where she seemed frustrated that despite sister Beyonce's record-breaking six Grammy wins in one night for a female, much of the attention was going to Taylor Swift, who won album of the year.

"I wasn't frustrated at all, I was just a proud sister. So, of course I wanted that to be celebrated. It was national history, it had never been done before and not only is it history, it's black history, it's music history. Anytime you break a record, I feel like it should be celebrated," she said.

Knowles, who was a DJ at tennis star Venus Williams' Tide party, said she was just in town for the parties, not the game: "I'm just in a different zone right now, not in party fo

A science-fiction love story has given way to an earthbound romance at the box office, livening up typically slow times at theatres over Super Bowl weekend.

Released by Sony's Screen Gems banner, Dear John debuted as the number one movie with US$32.4 million, knocking off Avatar after seven weekends in first place, according to studio estimates yesterday.

"It is very cool to know that it was our movie that audiences just totally embraced and made number one for the weekend," said Rory Bruer, head of distribution at Sony. As for runaway blockbuster Avatar, he quipped, "I think they're going to be fine in the long run."

Avatar slipped to number two with US$23.6 million, raising its domestic total to US$630.1 million. Directed by James Cameron, 20th Century Fox's Avatar surpassed his own Titanic, which had held the domestic revenue record at US$600.8 million.

With a record US$2.2 billion worldwide, Avatar has also soared past the $1.8 billion Titanic took in globally.

Factoring in today's higher admission prices, however, Avatar has sold fewer tickets than Titanic.

Avatar had been number one domestically longer than any movie since 1997's Titanic, which held on at first place for 15 weekends. The studio was unconcerned that Avatar finally fell out of the top spot.

"It had to happen sometime," said 20th Century Fox distribution executive Bert Livingston. "There's nothing that could disappoint me with this movie."

By the eighth weekend, most Hollywood movies have long since dropped out of the top 10 rankings.

Avatar is still going strong after eight weeks, with the added lustre of a month-long build-up to the Academy Awards on March 7. Following the example of Oscar champ TitanicAvatar tied for the lead at the Academy Awards with nine nominations and is a front-runner to win best picture.

Fox executives would not speculate what number Avatar eventually might hit at the box office.

"Who knows what that is? It just keeps on going," Livingston said.

The weekend's other new wide release, Lionsgate's spy story From Paris With Love, opened at number three with US$8.1 million. The movie stars John Travolta and Jonathan Rhys Meyers as CIA men trying to crack a terrorist plot.

Fox Searchlight's acclaimed country-music tale Crazy Heart expanded from narrow release and broke into the top 10, coming in at number eight with US$3.7 million. Jeff Bridges and Maggie Gyllenhaal have acting Oscar nominations for the film, which follows a boozy country star trying to turn his life around.

LOVE STORY

While Avatar features a human-alien romance light-years away, Dear John centres on a long-distance love story between a soldier (Channing Tatum) and his sweetheart (Amanda Seyfried) back home.

Dear John had a record opening for Super Bowl weekend, topping the US$31.1 million debut for Hannah Montanaand Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert in 2008.

The movie was based on the novel by Nicholas Sparks, whose Hollywood adaptations of The Notebook and A Walk to Remember, have been steady draws for women. Female crowds made up 84 per cent of the audience forDear John, according to Sony.

Sparks "creates these stories that really pull at your heartstrings, and certainly that may be first and foremost for women rather than men, though I think a few of us have hearts, too," Bruer said. "But his stories really resonate and are very compelling for women."

That bodes well for the movie over Valentine's Day weekend, said Geoffrey Ammer, head of marketing for Relativity Media, which produced Dear John. Valentine's weekend draws big date crowds, with women often picking which film to see.

Business yesterday was predictably slow as football fans watched the Super Bowl pro football championship instead of going to the movies. But Dear John already exceeded industry expectations with US$26.2 million last Friday and Saturday.

"Super Bowl weekend isn't about men. It's about women," said Paul Dergarabedian, box office analyst forHollywood.com. "This counter-programming strategy just absolutely works, the female audience propelling a movie to unprecedented heights."

Hollywood could use more fresh hits like Dear John if it hopes to match 2009's record box office pace. The first couple of weeks this year, Avatar had revenue and attendance running well ahead of last year.

But revenues have now declined for four straight weekends. So far in 2010, domestic revenues are at US$1.2 billion, 1.5 per cent ahead of last year's, according to Hollywood.com.

Factoring in higher ticket prices this year, though, movie attendance is down 0.5 per cent.

New Boyz take the stage by storm.

The Youth View Awards (YVAs) was without a doubt all about the 'young, hot and hype' last Saturday night at the National Indoor Sports Centre with smashing performances from local acts and American artistes New Boyz.

The third edition of the annual event saw a vast improvement in organisation, dcor and a much larger crowd than previous years with a well-executed red carpet, few breaks during the show, quick performances and a vibrant crowd that kept the energy high throughout the night.

Hosted by singer, rapper and socialite American Teyanna Taylor, Chino and Lady Rennae, the event kicked off at 9 p.m. with the YVA Nation doing its rendition of Jay Z's Run This Town. Inside, the venue was elegantly decorated in black and white with a large stage, big screens for fans to see, VIP area for the artistes and backstage transformed into a club for the after party. Aidonia was in fine form as he performed Evil Head to a positive response from patrons. Voicemail, accompanied by Overmars and the Above a Dem squad also made waves. G Whizz rolled out a hand cart as he walked into the venue in his merino and jeans, reminiscent of his music video for Life, as he came onstage singing the hit song and soon put on more clothes to represent that his life had 'sawt out'.

excited fans

Being Bob Marley's birthday, the reggae legend was not forgotten as Tessanne Chin alongside a guitarist sang his Woman Hold Her Head and Cry; with her powerful voice, Chin brought chills to the audience. Etana followed with Redemption Song and her song Roots.

To-Isis did a surprising rendition of I Can Transform Ya, which talked about bleaching. Teyanna Taylor did a dance number to Ester Dean's Drop It Low as she went into the crowd causing the already excited fans to scream even more.

Trever Off Key brought a touch of comedy to his performance re-doing popular songs, making way for Chino with a medley of Who God BlessProtected and From Mawning. Tifa tore the house down as she flipped and danced toSo Sick and 'spelt it out' with the help of the crowd. Accepting her award for the best female artiste, the young deejay was teary eyed as she thanked her fans.

Ding Dong also tore the house down as he and Ravers Clavers danced up a storm to Holiday. Shady Squad's dance routine had persons wanting more while Elephant Man came out in a hulk body suit for a mini-skit and delivering his usual energy. At the end of the night, however, it was New Boyz that patrons were eager to see as they got up out of their seats in anticipation. When New Boyz came onstage it was pandemonium as fans screamed and tried to get as close to them as possible. Singing Tie Me Down and You're a Jerk, the duo acknowledged how well received they were in Jamaica and hoped to return soon. After the show, persons stuck around to party with the stars at the after party held at the same venue.

Viagra for life

FURNITURE retailer Courts Jamaica Limited has agreed to cover the future cost of Viagra for a 26-year-old man, to whom it was recently ordered by the High Court to make a hefty multimillion-dollar payment in damages.

Courts is to foot Viagra cost for Kenroy Biggs to the tune of $1.53 million, a figure that has been affirmed by Justice Bryan Sykes in a ruling late last month.

Overall, Courts is to shell out $45.85 million in damages to Biggs plus legal costs.

Biggs of Cane River, St Andrew, suffers from permanent erectile dysfunction and his whole person has been impaired by "55 per cent" as a result of a Courts truck crashing into him seven years ago. Biggs also lost part of his left leg by way of amputation.

Biggs was hit by the truck and pinned to a wall while walking in his Cane River community on the night of March 23, 2003. He was 19-years-old at the time.

This marked the beginning of several years of medical procedures, which included urethra surgeries in the United States, along with persistent back and other pains.

Biggs later filed suit against Courts to recover damages. The company later agreed to some of the damages sought by Biggs, including his Viagra expenses.

During the assessment of damages hearing before Sykes in December last year, medical evidence was given that Biggs suffered "significant erectile dysfunction" for which Viagra was prescribed.

Another medical report states that Biggs suffers from depression as a result of the trauma of the accident and the constant worry that he may not be able to engage in sexual relations or father a child.

According to the medical report, Biggs is functioning at "65 per cent of his full overall psychological capacity".

Sykes, in making the award, lamented Biggs' plight.

"In light of what has been said, I feel that a sum of $18 million is appropriate compensation for pain, suffering and loss of amenities. This head of damages covers physical as well as psychological suffering," Sykes wrote.

Added Sykes: "Mr Biggs has permanent urological damage. There is the permanent problem of stricture of his urethra, which can only be relieved by the painful insertion of catheters. Mr Biggs has permanent erectile dysfunction. He has lost a leg."

CHICAGO A pregnant Toronto woman received some help from Oprah Winfrey this week after her water broke during a taping of the talk show queen's program.

Lori McCrindle was in the audience for an "Oprah" taping Thursday in Chicago.

When she realized the baby was coming, an ambulance was called and Winfrey ushered her off to the hospital.

McCrindle was taken to Rush University Medical Center where she gave birth to a baby boy named Justin, who is two pounds, 13 ounces.

During a telephone interview on Friday's show, McCrindle, who was 27 weeks pregnant, told Winfrey she got to the hospital just in time and that the baby is fine.

Winfrey sent McCrindle her best wishes and said she'd fly her back to see an "Oprah" taping whenever she wanted.

"After all these years it is not too often we have a first," Winfrey said. "But yesterday was a doozy."

Here's a report, along with a video from MediaTakeOut.com's pals at FOXNY:
An 8-year-old boy was found dead and his socialite mother near death at a luxury Midtown Manhattan hotel on Friday morning in a possible murder-attempted suicide.

The incident was uncovered late in the morning at the Peninsula Hotel.

The NYPD is investigating it as a murder-suicide attempt. Police said the mother, a Belgian socialite named Gigi Jordan, 49, made incriminating statements to detectives.

Cops found a suicide note at the scene, the AP reported.

The woman's relatives contacted police Friday, saying they feared the child was in danger, according to the NYPD. Jordan was apparently distraught over the end of her marriage.
