BRENDAN RODGERS has further strengthened his squad after landing Ł2.8million Moroccan flier Oussama Assaidi.

The Kop boss snatched the Heerenveen winger, 24, from under the nose of Ajax, and he oins Fabio Borini and Joe Allen as the Reds' summer arrivals.

Assaidi was all set to join the Dutch champions, but then Rodgers moved in for a man he was monitoring during his days as Swansea chief, and the player had a dramatic change of heart.

The Anfield gaffer is determined to add more options out wide, and moved for Assaidi after Cristian Tello chose to fight for a place at Barcelona ahead of a move to Merseyside.

Now the Moroccan international can look forward to a Ł1million-a-year contract, a huge rise from his current Ł7,000 a week, and the chance to play a key role in Rodgers' Red revolution.

He was available for such a knockdown fee as he has just 12 months left on his contract, while his wages are further proof of Rodgers' determination to pay realistic money, rather than the sky high contracts bandied about in recent seasons.

Liverpool hope to make it a double swoop by the end of the weekend, as they are confident of landing Real Madrid midfielder Nuri Sahin on a season's loan.

Arsenal are still fighting to take the Turkish international to the Emirates, but Rodgers hopes his relationship with Jose Mourinho from their Chelsea days will swing things his way.

VURNON ANITA checked in at Newcastle and vowed to power them to silverware.

The Dutch international completed his Ł6million five-year switch earlier today after agreeing to become Alan Pardew's midfield enforcer.

And Anita, 23, immediately set his sights on repeating his success with Ajax at St James' Park.

He said: "I won almost everything in Holland so the step was not difficult to make."

"Now I think we can also win trophies with Newcastle and it's time to do that."

"I talked to the manager and the coach and they know that I want to play in a defensive midfield place and that's why they brought me here."

"In the Premier League especially, every game is tough so it can help me also to grow in my football skills."

Jan-Vertonghen-Spurs.jpeg

Tottenham Hotspur have finalised the signing of Jan Vertonghen from Ajax after the centre-half passed his medical. The 25-year-old agreed terms with the club at the weekend and has now completed the formalities.

Tottenham confirmed the news on their official Twitter feed, writing: "We are delighted to announce that @Jan_Vertonghen has completed his transfer from Ajax after passing his medical."

Tottenham had been tracking the Belgium international for several months, with Vertonghen winning last season's Eredivisie player of the season award as he captained Ajax to the Dutch league.

His move was briefly delayed, however, amid reported interest from Arsenal while the arrival of André Villas-Boas as manager in place of Harry Redknapp also created some upheaval.

Speaking after agreeing terms, Vertonghen welcomed the chance to play at White Hart Lane - regardless of who is in charge. "I am very relieved," he told Sky Sports News. "It went on for a long time, but I'm glad I'm a Tottenham player and I'm looking forward to playing for the club.

"I am 25 years old now and I feel ready to play in the Premier League. I heard that Harry Redknapp really wanted me to play for Tottenham, but now it's André Villas-Boas. To me, that doesn't matter. I just want to play for the club and I hope I can please the fans."

Vertonghen is the club's second summer signing following the arrival of the Iceland midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson.

Hoilett-QPR.png

QPR have signed Canadian forward Junior Hoilett on a four-year deal, the Premier League club has confirmed.

Hoilett revealed the chance to link up with former boss Mark Hughes was too great to resist as the pair are reunited at Loftus Road.

The West London side have won the race to sign the 22-year-old after his contract at Championship outfit Blackburn Rovers expired over the summer.

Due to his age Rovers are entitled to compensation for the player under FIFA rules, with a tribunal to set this amount should the two clubs fail to agree a fee.

"The manager obviously played a big part in my decision to come here," Hoilett told the club's official website. "He's someone I know well here having worked with him and his backroom team at Blackburn.

"QPR are a club that are certainly heading in the right direction. The ambition to take this club to the next level was something I really wanted to be part of.

"The manager and the owners have huge ambitions to achieve things here and this is the perfect place for me to further my career."

Hoilett is one of a host of new face at Loftus Road as manager Hughes rings the changes among his squad.

Rob Green, Ryan Nelsen, Fabio Da Silva, Park Ji-sung, Samba Diakite and Andy Johnson have all joined the club in recent months as club chiefs hope to avoid another relegation scrap and steer the club to mid-table safety.

"Junior is a player I know very well," Hughes added. "He was just a young boy trying to make his way in the game when I had him at Blackburn.

"It was difficult for him then because of work permit issues, but I had him training with the first team very early on because his talent was there for all to see.

"We knew then he was going to have a great future and he's certainly showed that talent over the last few seasons at Ewood Park.

"He's shown he's a player of top quality and a player that can makes things happen, both on his own and as a team player.

"He's certainly a player that will enhance what we've got in the group and I am delighted he's chosen to come to us."

Jack%20Rodwell%201.ashx?h=281&w=500

ROBERTO MANCINI last night landed England midfielder Jack Rodwell in a Ł15million deal.

But the Manchester City boss still wants more new players - despite picking up the season's first piece of silverware with yesterdays Community Shield win over Chelsea.

Mancini said: "I liked Jack last year and for this reason we bought him."

"He is a good player who needs to improve to play at this level. But he is young. I think hes a good player for our future. We are still looking for other players. We are interested in all good players."

Mancini has begged City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak and football administrator Brian Marwood for the cash to splash on more new *la*hd.

Khaldoon is keen to smooth the waters between Mancini and Marwood and the Italian added: "I speak with Khaldoon always."

Levante striker Arouna Kone is to join Premier League side Wigan in a deal worth a reported 3.5 million euros.

Kone, 28, scored 15 Primera Division goals last season as both player and club completed their best ever La Liga campaigns.

The move was confirmed by Levante on their official website on Tuesday, with a statement saying: "Levante UD and Wigan Athletic have reached an agreement this afternoon to transfer Arouna Koné to the English club.

"The levantine outfit wish to thank the Ivorian international for his professionalism and his commitment defending the azulgrana shirt, and wish him the best of luck in the next stage of his career."

The Ivory Coast international had been on loan from Spanish rivals Sevilla, but the Valencia-based outfit exercised an option to complete a purchase for an undisclosed fee last June.

Spanish press reports say an agreement was then put in place which would allow Kone to move to the Premier League should a club make a sufficient offer.

Levante, who face Scottish Premier League side Motherwell in the Europa League later this month, have already lined up a replacement with free agent and Greek international Theofanis Gekas scheduled for a medical Wednesday morning.

FABIO BORINI has completed his Ł8million move from Roma to Liverpool.

The striker, 21, agreed terms and completed his medical at the club's training ground tonight.

He becomes Brendan Rodgers' first signing as Liverpool boss.

Rodgers, who took Borini on loan when he was in charge of Swansea, reckons the Kop will be blown away by the Italian international.

He said: "He's technically strong, he's a good finisher with both feet, he can play central or on the sides in a 4-4-3, he's quick and he's tactically very good.

"He is arguably the best physical player I've worked with in terms of his pace, power and fitness.

"I think the supporters will love him."

JOE ALLEN will be a Kop idol after Liverpool triggered his release clause at Swansea.

The Reds hit the Ł15million magic figure that lets the midfield ace quit.

And today Allen, 22, meets his Swans boss Michael Laudrup and will tell him he wants to rejoin his former gaffer Brendan Rodgers on Merseyside.

Rodgers agreed not to raid his ex-employers for players but, when Spurs also showed an interest, it became an open market.

The small print of Allen's terms meant Swansea would not stand in his way if any would-be buyer came up with the asking price.

The deal is expected to go through by the end of the weekend.

It was the second piece of good news in 48 hours for Rodgers after Luis Suarez signed a new treble-your-money Ł120,000-a-week, four-year deal on Tuesday.

KINGSTON, Jamaica - Jamaican underlined their status of the sprint powerhouse of the world with a scintillating world record breaking run inside the Olympic Stadium in London today. The team of Nesta Carter, Michael Frater, Yohan Blake and Usain Bolt decimated the field to a World and Olympic record time of 36.84. The USA was second in 37.04, the former world record.

The Jamaica/US showdown in the mens 4x100 relay proved a sizzling finale in track and field at the London Olympics.

The time by the Jamaicans is the first sub37 clocking in history.

4X100-world-recod.jpg

Canada, third across the line in 38.07, were disqualified and Trinidad & Tobago 38.12 were elevated to bronze.

Comments from gold medallists Nesta Carter, Michael Frater, Yohan Blake and Usain Bolt following the men's 4x100m final at the Olympic Stadium on Saturday.

Nesta Carter: "We got a lot of practice this year so I was expecting a fast time, and 36.84 is a fast time."

Michael Frater on the race:

"We have a huge following in the stands, there are lots of Jamaicans here. We knew that the US would run a fast race. We are obviously delighted with the world record. It's an awesome feeling, there is nothing bigger than this. I would like to thank my family and friends, it's a wonderful feeling."

Yohan Blake on the race:

"We ran as a team and we handled the pressure pretty well. For me, two silvers and a gold medal is a wonderful feeling. Usain BOLT has been motivating me all along - it has been great."

Usain Bolt on the race:

"It's always a beautiful feeling to end off like this. We did it last year in the world championships - for me it is a wonderful feeling. The team came out and gave their all - I knew a world record was possible."

gold.jpg

On whether he will compete at Rio 2016:

"I've thought about it, I think it is going to be very hard. Yohan (BLAKE) is coming through and I'm sure a lot of the other young guys are coming up, so I will see what happens in four years."

On what he wanted to achieve at London 2012:

"This was my goal. I've done that so right now I'm going to sit down and think about it. But I'm going to the city tonight to celebrate."

When it comes to the 4x400-meter Olympic relay, the American men aren't used to being overtaken at the end, the way Angelo Taylor was Friday night.

Then again, they have never really run that race under these circumstances.

The day after Manteo Mitchell finished out his preliminary lap on a broken leg, the banged-up U.S. team made sure he would get something as a reward. But it was a silver medal, not gold. Taylor got passed by Ramon Miller of the Bahamas on the final lap - marking the first Olympic men's gold medal in any sport for that island country and the first American loss in that race at the Olympics since 1972.

439x.jpg

Instead of complaining about the color of their medal, the Americans celebrated their teammate's courage.

"Without him, this wouldn't be possible," said Tony McQuay, Mitchell's roommate in the athletes village. "He held it down for the USA. Sorry we couldn't give him the gold. But we want to thank him for getting us to the final."

The Bahamas won in 2 minutes, 56.72 seconds, .33 ahead of the U.S. Trinidad and Tobago finished third and the South African team, anchored by double amputee "Blade Runner" Oscar Pistorius, fell behind well before Pistorius received the baton and finished last.

Mitchell's selfless run kept the United States in the mix for a medal. In the preliminaries Thursday, he felt a pop in his leg at the halfway point of his lap but stayed on the track to move the baton along to teammate Joshua Mance. The U.S. qualified easily. Doctors later told him he had a broken left fibula that will take up to six weeks to heal.

Mitchell came to the stadium for the race Friday using crutches and wearing a gray walking boot that covered his foot and leg up to the knee. He was part of the celebration after Taylor crossed the line.

"I realize the significance," said Mitchell, who will receive a silver medal because he ran in the preliminaries. "But it's not about me. It's not about you. That's how Team USA operates. A lot of people on outside looking in think that this is an individual sport. But in the end, we're here to serve our countries."

Mitchell joined the last two Olympic 400-meter champions, Jeremy Wariner and Lashawn Merritt, on the sideline with injuries.

That juggled the lineup and left Taylor, a 33-year-old with two Olympic golds in hurdles, to run the anchor leg. He couldn't hold off Miller, who closed out the race with a lap of 44.1 seconds to make history in the Bahamas.

"For me, it's a joyful feeling," said Chris Brown, who ran the opening leg. "It's been a long journey for me. I've been here for a long time and this is my first Olympic gold medal. I've gotten silver and bronze before. It took me a long time. The United States is a tough team to beat."

Not quite as tough with Taylor running the anchor lap.

He was handed a 10-meter lead when he received the baton, but Miller chipped away. By the final stretch, Miller had passed him and the rest of the race was academic. The Americans had won gold the previous eight times they had competed, missing out only at the boycotted 1980 Moscow Games.

"I felt the second gear come on, but it came on too late," Taylor said. "I think I should have moved a little earlier. We gave our best."

Taylor, running in his fourth Olympics, adds silver to his three golds: 400-meter hurdles in 2000 and 2008, and the 4x400 relay in 2008.

"We took some hits," he said. "But even though we took a hit, we were able to put together a team that could take home the silver."

Until Monday night Kirani James was a superstar in the making. As of now he is made. James, only 19 years old, won the Olympic 400m in 43.94sec. It made him the first athlete from outside the USA to break the 44-second barrier and, more importantly, it won Grenada's first ever Olympic medal. James said that right now his home country, which has a population of 110,000, would just be "one huge street party, everyone getting merry and having a good time".

kirani.jpg

James was already the world champion but he won that title in 44.60sec. In comparison this felt like the kind of breakthrough performance that his coach, Harvey Glance, had been talking about when he said James was "a freak of nature" who was capable of beating Michael Johnson's world record of 43.18sec. "When Michael broke his record he must have been 26 or 27 years old," Glance said. "Kirani's only going to get faster and stronger. He really wants to put his country on the map. We want to rewrite history."

If James is going to do that, he will have to battle Luguelin Santos all the way. Santos, who is a year younger and from Dominican Republic, won silver in 44.46sec. "When you are young you don't have anything to lose but you have so much to gain," James said, explaining how two teenagers had come to be top of the podium.

Santos finished yards behind James, who came round the final bend "like a train", as the stadium announcer put it. A Japanese bullet train, perhaps, certainly not a National Rail service. James, leaning forward as though he was running into a stiff wind, pulled away from the field in the final 100m, just as Johnson once did and as Usain Bolt still does. James has set all manner of records in the 200m as a youth and talk soon turned to whether he would fancy returning to that distance to match up with Bolt. "That's for the future," he said. "Right now I'm concentrating on the 400m."

The gap between James and Santos will shrink over time. The two of them have similar sorts of backgrounds. James grew up in "a small fishing community" called Gouyve, where his father works as a labourer. His talent was spotted when he won silver at the World Youth Championships in 2007, and Alabama University gave him an athletics scholarship. Santos has had a harder route. "The greatest pain I have suffered in my life didn't come from an injury," he has said. "It is called hunger. It was my companion when I started athletics. I was really poor, I didn't even have enough money to buy shoes and I would train barefoot. Those were really hard times. Sometimes my feet would bleed until I wanted to cry." His life is about to get very different.

Trinidad & Tobago's Lalonde Gordon took the bronze. Athletics fans should notice something a little odd about that top three. It was the first time since 1920 that an athlete from the USA had not won an Olympic medal in the 400m. In fact, a little look at the start list revealed something stranger still, and it was not just that the brilliant Belgian twins Kevin and Jonathan Borlée had been drawn in lanes one and eight, giving the line-up a certain symmetry. No, it was that not one runner from the USA made the final. That was an Olympic first, with the obvious exception of the 1980 Games in Moscow, when they did not send a team. The USA won clean-sweeps in the 400m at both the 2004 and 2008 Olympics and their monopoly on this event has been asstrong as the one McDonald's exerts over the sales of hamburgers in the Olympic site - until now.

Before James the last man to run sub-44sec was the last Olympic champion, LaShawn Merritt, and that was back in 2008. Merritt finished second to James at the world championships, after coming back from a two-year ban for a positive drugs test. He blamed it on a supplement called ExtenZe, which is euphemistically described as "promoting natural male enhancement". Having brazened out the ignominy that came with all that, Merritt pulled a hamstring during the heats and dropped out. Given the chorus of boos that Justin Gatlin received as he stepped up on to the podium to get his bronze medal for the 100m, one wonders whether anyone missed Merritt much. In James and Santos the sport has two new heroes, ones worth celebrating. After the semi-final James made a point of swapping his name-tag with Oscar Pistorius, a gracious act that won him a lot of admirers. "Oscar," he explained, "should be a huge inspiration for everybody, whether they are an athlete or not."

KINGSTON, Jamaica - Jamaica's team of Chritsine Day, Rosemarie Whyte, Shericka Williams and Novelene Williams-Mills earned a bronze medal in the 4x400m relay in London.

The Americans won the event handsomely in 3:16.9, while Russia (3:20.2) placed second.

The Jamaicans clocked 3:21.0.

Christine Day on winning bronze:

"This is really one of my greatest moments but this was my worst day of competing in terms of nerves."

Rosemarie Whyte on winning bronze:

"I'm very grateful. We have a good team. We are very thankful. A bronze medal is great. Now we start working on gold or silver next time."

Sherika Williams on winning bronze:

"It was a tough race but everyone did a great job."

LONDON, England - The Jamaican women's sprint relay team ran a national record 41.41 seconds in last night's final of the Olympic Games women's 4x100m relays, the third best of all time, but had to settle for the silver medal behind the United States, who smashed a brilliant and almost flawless world record 40.82 seconds.

439x.jpg

The Americans' time was the second world record to be set on the track in less than 24 hours after David Rudisha of Kenya broke his own 800m record the night before, removing the 27-year-old time of 41.37 seconds set by the East German team of Silke Gladisch-Moller, Sabine Rieger-Gunther, Ingrid Auerswald-Lange, and Marlies Gohr in Canberra, Australia.

Jamaica beat their old record 41.70 seconds, set last year while taking the silver behind a USA team that included three of the women who ran last night.

Ukraine, who had beaten Jamaica in Thursday's preliminaries, were third in a new national record 42.04 seconds.

The Jamaica team of Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Sherone Simpson, Veronica Campbell Brown, and Kerron Stewart fought gallantly, but the Americans got off to a blistering start from Tianna Madison, while Allyson Felix, Bianca Knight and Carmelita Jeter did the rest.

The silver was Jamaica's 10th of the Games, just one shy of their record haul in Beijing, China, four years ago with two more finals to go later tonight as the track and field competition comes to a close.

Simpson, who was part of the last Jamaican team to win an Olympic gold in Athens in 2004, said they were all happy for the medal. "Of course we are happy, we are going on the podium, of course we have to be happy," she said, before adding that if they had more time to practise they would be able to run even faster.

"We are happy, we are very happy with how we ran, we just need to get together more, practise more and once we are able to do that we will be able to run better. For the practice that we did, we really did well, and we just have to continue to work hard," she said. "41.41 seconds is amazing and just to see the little time we had together that was really a good time for us."

Stewart supported Simpson, saying: "There is a reason why there are three medals and if we should only be happy with gold they should just scrap the silver and bonze and just hand out the gold."

KINGSTON, Jamaica - Trinidad's Keshorn Walcott copped the gold medal in the men's javelin in London today.

This is the first ever gold medal for a Caribbean athlete in a field event at the Olympics and the first for the western hemisphere in decades.

Walcott age nineteen, the World junior champion, won with a throw of 84.58m beating highly fancied European competitors. Europeans have monopolised the javelin at the Olympics for years.

Walcott was surprised by his accomplishment.

"I'm surprised I even made the final. I just went out there to relax and enjoy it, and it worked for me. It means everything to me. This is what it's all about. I just train my hardest and try to enjoy every time I come out."

LONDON, England - Alia Atkinson just missed what would have been an incredible first medal for Jamaica in the 27th Olympic Games after finishing fourth in the women's 100m breaststroke final at the Aquatic Centre in Olympic Park in Stratford, London yesterday.

Swimming out of lane eight, the 23-year-old, who came into the Olympics ranked number 17 in the world, swam 1 minute 06.93 seconds, just .17 seconds off her National Record 1 minute 06.79 seconds that she swam in the swim-off the night before after tying with Canadian Tera Van Belien in the semi-final.

AliaAtkinsonE20120728RM.jpg

In front of a noisy, near capacity arena, the former Texas A&M swimmer had a good start and was fifth at the 50m turn in 31.36 seconds, then swam the second 50 metres in 35.57 seconds, to finish behind Japan's Satomi Suzuki (1 minute 06.46 seconds), who was in lane one as Lithuania's Ruta Meilutyte won the gold medal in 1 minute 05.47 seconds ahead of American Rebacca Soni, who took silver in 1 minute 05.55 seconds.

Atkinson, who equalled Jamaica's best ever result in Olympic swimming, joining Janelle Atkinson (no relation), who was fourth in the women's 400m freestyle 12 years ago in Sydney, told reporters after the race she really wanted a medal "to show that Jamaica's swimming is up there".

She said her first aim was to finish ahead of her namesake, or "at least get where she did (and) I tied with her, hopefully this will open up the eyes of the world to see Jamaica's swimming".

Atkinson, who will start her campaign in the 200m breaststroke tomorrow morning when he swims in the heats, says she now hopes she will get the chance to continue for another four years. "Hopefully I can get some funding or sponsorship to continue until 2016 because that is definitely a possibility if I can get some financial support."

The start of the race was held up after American Breeja Larson, jumped the gun but was not disqualified as the swimmers were not under the starter's order then, but Alia said this did not throw her off in any way.

She admitted to being "a little disappointed that I did not pace third", but pointed out that even if she had swam her best time, it would not have been good enough.

Alia said she stuck to her race plan and swam a well paced race. "I did not die in the last 25 metres, I was still building and was able to hold off the two girls (to her right) one thing was I could not see the girl in lane one," she said, before joking that she was thinking she would be able to sneak up on the swimmers in the inside lanes, but quipped that maybe the Japanese was thinking the same thing as well.

Jamaica's sprint king Usain Bolt reaffirmed his status as a "legend" when he ran 19.32 to win the Olympic 200m title.

Teammates Yohan Blake was second in 19.44 while Warren Weir was third in 19.84, a personal best.

Medals123A20120809RM.jpg

"It's wonderful. Jamaica has proven that we are the greatest sprint country," said Bolt.

"I've got nothing left to prove. I've showed the world I'm the best and, right now, I just want to enjoy myself, this is my moment. I'll never forget this. Lane seven has been good to me these past couple of days," he added.

Bolt told reporters in London that the task was difficult, but he was able to overcome, "It was hard for me, it was hard. I'm really dedicated to my work. I knew what London meant and I'm proud of myself."

A surprised and proud Blake said he could not ask for more from his first Olympic experience.

"It's great. Of course, I want to thank Usain and Jamaica. This is my first Olympics, I can't complain, this moment here is special for Jamaica. This is so good to get the one, two, three."

Twenty-two-year-old Warren Weir said it was an honour to represent his country in this way.

"All the glory goes to Jamaica. Thank you so much. This is a tremendous feeling and to have the one, two, three, words can't explain how I feel. It's just a wonderful feeling and I love London," he said.

"It's a great honour to do what my country wanted, I did it for my mother, my fiancee and everyone at home," he added.

American Wallace Spearmon finished fourth and offered his congratulations to the Jamaicans, who he described as superb.

"There was never a doubt in my mind that I wouldn't finish in the top three. Right now it is just surreal, congratulations to them, I just have to work harder," a disappointed Spearmon said.

"Those guys are on another planet right now, congratulations," he added.

Bolt has become the only man to win the 100m and 200m twice, consecutively.

KINGSTON, Jamaica - Jamaica's Hansle Parchment finished third today making history as the first Jamaican to medal in the men's 110m hurdles at the Olympics.

Parchment, clocking 13.12, also improved on the National Record he set running 13.14 in the semis.

"I did not think I executed as well as I wanted, but I got a medal so I'm happy, I'm not a very fast starter, but it was good enough for me," he said.

hansle.jpg

Parchment said all that was going through his mind during the race was, "try to get them".

American Aries Merritt won the race in 12.92 with his countryman Jason Richardson (13.04) in second.

"Richardson and Merritt are excellent competitors and have been running sub-13 all year, so I congratulate them," Parchment said.

Noted Cuban, Dayron Robles, pulled up during the race finishing out of the frame.

LONDON, England - While he hesitated to say he was the greatest ever sprinter, global star Usain Bolt will have a hard time convincing anyone that he doesn't belong right up there with the very best of them.

Last night in front of 80,000 expectant fans in the Olympic Stadium and billions all over the globe, he destroyed one of the best fields ever assembled for a 100m final with a sublime run to retain his Olympic men's 100m title, with a new Olympic record 9.63 seconds, just short of his World Record 9.58 seconds.

BCC_0672_w445.jpg

He was pushed by a +1.5 metres per second wind, winning by a gigantic stride.

Bolt's second best time dispelled all doubts or speculation about his form and abilities as he dragged training partner and IAAF World Champion Yohan Blake to a silver medal as the latter equalled his personal best 9.75 seconds. American Justin Gatlin was third in a new personal best 9.79 seconds, which reduced American teammate Tyson Gay to tears as he finished fourth in a season-best 9.80 seconds.

The gold and silver earned yesterday pushed Jamaica's medal tally to four - with two gold after Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce had retained her 100m the night before, one silver and a bronze. Jamaica are now second behind Great Britain in track and field and up eight places to 20th overall in the Games.

Bolt also became the first man after Carl Lewis in 1992 to retain the 100m title and said this one was sweeter given the circumstances and doubts about his form after he was beaten twice by Blake at the Jamaican Trials over a month ago.

Were it not for an injury to Asafa Powell who limped home in 11.99 seconds and left him bent over in pain and obvious disappointment yards from the finish line as the world's attention was glued to the celebrating Bolt, the race would be the first ever in history to see all eight men under 10 seconds.

American Ryan Bailey equalled his personal best 9.88 seconds for fifth, Churandy Martina was sixth in 9.94 seconds after setting a new personal best 9.91 seconds in the semi-finals, while Trinidad's Richard Thompson was seventh in 9.98 seconds.

Members of the print media had to wait all of 90 minutes for Bolt and Blake to catch up to them but when the Olympic champion did, he said he would not call himself the greatest but was happy that finally everyone who mattered in men's sprinting was in the field.

He said his loss to Blake at Trials was good for him. "Trials was a wake-up call; Blake woke me up at Trials, he knocked at my door and said this is the Olympic year."

Asked whether this win was more special than 2008 where he won by a wider margin, he said "for me it means more because a lot of people were doubting me". "They were saying I wasn't in top form but I showed them that I am the best."

Bolt said there would be no celebrating yet as he had the 200m to prepare for. "This is my event, this is the one I really work hard in," he noted.

For his part, Blake was "grateful" for a silver medal in his first Olympic Games and said he was not disappointed. "Usain Bolt just got the better of me on the night and it is still Jamaica one, two so I am great."

Despite his wins over Bolt at Trials, Blake admitted to being "nervous as this is one of the biggest stages in the world". "After I got going, I thought I had a chance and only lost it right at the end," said an upbeat Blake.

Powell, on the other hand, was a picture of dejection. "In the semi-finals I sort of played around to take any attention off me, but in the final I stumbled a bit and that messed up my groin again as I knew I would have been up there in the medals," he said.

Bolt had sent the message loud and clear earlier in the semi-finals with a master display, dispelling any doubts about his state of readiness.

He got off to a clean start and had separated from the field by 60m before shutting down and cruising to the finish line in 9.87 seconds (+1.0m/s wind), beating American Ryan Bailey (9.96 seconds) and Trinidad's Richard Thompson, the silver medalists four years ago, who ran 10.06 seconds.

Arsenal Football Club is delighted to announce that Spain international Santi Cazorla has joined the Club on a long-term contract.

Santi Cazorla - full name Santiago Cazorla González - joins Arsenal for an undisclosed fee from Malaga. He was a key part of the Malaga side which finished fourth in La Liga last season, qualifying for the UEFA Champions League for the first time in the club's history.

Cazorla, a versatile 27-year-old attacking midfielder, has made a total of 45 appearances for Spain and was a member of his country's victorious squads at the European Championship in 2008 and 2012.

Before joining Malaga in 2011, Cazorla spent two spells at Villarreal, making 181 appearances and helping 'the Yellow Submarine' finish runners-up in La Liga in 2008. In between these spells, he spent
the 2006/07 season in La Liga on loan at Recreativo. Cazorla spent the early part of his career at youth level with Spanish side Oviedo.

Arsenal manager Arsčne Wenger said: "Santi Cazorla is a great signing for us. He is a player with good experience at both club and international level, who will add significant quality to our squad.

"He is a versatile, attacking midfield player who can play comfortably on either side of the pitch or centrally. He has good pace, is technically gifted and will be a huge asset to Arsenal Football Club.
We are delighted that he is joining us."

Cazorla, who was voted Spanish Player of the Year in 2007, said: "I'm so happy to be joining Arsenal. This is a club with great players, a fantastic stadium and huge support.

"The Club has one of the best managers in football and their style of play is recognised and admired all over the world.

"I'm so excited to be joining one of the greatest teams in Europe and also in the Premier League. I will do my best to help Arsenal challenge for trophies and make all the supporters happy."

Everyone welcomes Santi to the Club, his squad number will be confirmed in due course.

LONDON, England - She thought her win four years in Beijing, China was sweeter as she was an unknown and inexperienced then, but you couldn't tell as she fell to the track in shock and surprise after her win in the women's 100m was confirmed on the big scoreboard inside Olympic Stadium last night.

In front of a packed stadium with capacity 80,000 spectators on a cool night perfect for sprinting, Jamaica's Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Veronica Campbell Brown provided Jamaica's first two medals - gold and bronze at the XXX Olympiad in London to get the medal hunt underway and jump into third place, on the athletics table and 28th overall, tied with Ethiopia behind leaders Great Britain with three gold medals and the People's Republic of China with a gold and two bronze.

DSC_6438_w445.jpg

"I am excited," she said to reporters. "Happy 50th anniversary to Jamaica."

Fraser-Pryce clocked a fast 10.75 seconds pushed by a plus 1.5 metres per second wind to hold off American World Championships 100m winner Carmelita Jeter, who ran a season-best 10.78 seconds, with compatriot Veronica Campbell Brown taking the bronze, also in a season-best 10.81 seconds, in a nail-biting race.

The pint-sized sprinter with the brilliant smile, became the third woman to repeat as Olympic 100m champion and first none American after Wyomia Tyus's win in 1964 and 1968 and Gail Devers in 1992 and 1996.

Despite not getting off to her usually blazing fast start, Fraser-Pryce was in control early and moved away from the pack before holding on at the end to beat a fast closing Jeter and Campbell Brown.

Her coach Stephen Francis described her race afterwards as "very bad".

"She did not do much things right except crossed the line first and I think that shows you the type of competitor she is."

Added Francis: "Most of her technique left her in this race and now that she got this one out of the way she can get it technically better for the 200m."

The effervescent Fraser-Pryce was at a loss for words to describe her race. "I don't know how to feel, I am excited," she said as she thanked her family and those she said stuck by her as she went through tough times two years ago.

"I really don't know what happened to be honest," she told reporters in the mixed zone after the race celebrations.

"As a sprinter the first thing is to get out of the blocks first... but coach said I should go out and get the first stride correct and if I did not follow his instructions I hope you win."

While she savoured last night's win she said she had come into the Games as a favourite, causing some anxiety, while in China she was "inexperienced and did not know" if she could win.

With the first gold out of the way, Fraser-Pryce said she is still unaware of what to expect in the 200m to come later this week, but hinted she had gold on her mind. "I don't know what to expect, but I came here on a mission and it has not been completed, I will tell you after the 200m."

Campbell Brown, who was winning her 14th major medal and was agonisingly close to getting her first Olympic 100m gold, said she was grateful for the medal and that she would be on the podium today.

"It was a fast race, it was good, I was just happy and I won't make any excuses, I got a medal and that's absolutely good."

Campbell Brown now has four individual Olympic medals and will start her hunt for a third straight 200m title later this week. "Never get tired of winning medals, it is the reward for hard work and I am happy," she said.

Two hours earlier in the semi-finals, Fraser-Pryce had won her heat in an easy 10.85 seconds, easing up with some 40 metres to go, while Campbell Brown also looked easy taking second and an automatic spot in 10.89 seconds behind Jeter's 10.83 seconds.

Fraser-Pryce, who had replaced her green ribbon with a yellow one, got to the line ahead of Felix without much effort.

CHELSEA have completed the Ł25million capture of Oscar ahead of his Olympic debut for Brazil tomorrow.

The 20-year-old playmaker has been signed on a long-term deal by the European Champions after a deal was concluded with Oscars Brazilian club Internacional this afternoon.

Oscar, who underwent a medical at a private hospital in West London last week, was not planning to complete his move until his Olympic commitments were over.

But the deal was rushed forward by Chelsea after a work permit was obtained yesterday for the young man who destroyed Stuart Pearces Great Britain team in a pre-Olympic warm-up match last Friday.

Chelsea boss Roberto Di Matteo said: "He is a fantastic player, one of the youngest to push through to the Brazilian national team and he will be a fantastic signing for us.

"Oscar is a very exciting young talent, a creative midfield player who scores goals. He will add a lot of options and solutions for us in midfield."

Confirmation of Oscar's arrival at Stamford Bridge takes Chelsea's summer spending spree to a staggering Ł76m.

Di Matteo's team have already signed Ł32m Eden Hazard from Lille, Ł2m for Hazard's brother Thorgan from Lens and a further Ł7m for German international Marko Marin from Werder Bremen.

And Chelsea fans will get an early look at their exciting new attacking midfielder when he plays in Brazil's opening Olympic game against Egypt in Cardiff's Milennium Stadium tomorrow.

Di Matteo added: "It will be a challenge to make sure we have the right balance within the team so we will have to see how we fit the team together with all the players.

"The club has always been competitive, looking to improve, get better and fight at the top end of the league so it will only give us a better chance in the Premier League."

Paris Saint-Germain have announced the signing of Thiago Silva from AC Milan on a five-year deal.

The news follows Milan owner Silvio Berlusconi's announcement that he had agreed to sell both Thiago Silva and Zlatan Ibrahimovic to PSG.

The Brazil centre-back's agent, Paulo Toniello, had indicated on Saturday morning that the transfer was still "far from" complete, but terms were agreed later in the day and the move has now been finalised.

A statement on PSG's official website read: "Thiago Silva, 27 years old, Brazilian international, from AC Milan, has this Saturday signed with Paris Saint-Germain for five seasons."

PSG coach Carlo Ancelotti has said that there are no plans to sell any defenders despite the signing and warned Mamadou Sakho, who has fallen down the pecking order since the Italian's appointment, that he will not be allowed to move on.

"With Silva and Alex, we have a good basis for the defence and I will choose the best players for each game," he said. "I won't neglect the other defenders who perform well.

"There hasn't been a discussion over any defender leaving as a result of this. If Sakho demands to leave, we have taken our decision: it's that he must stay."

The deal to take Ibrahimovic to Paris, though, has yet to be agreed, with the player reportedly eager to secure a salary in the region of 14 million a year.

His agent, Mino Raiola, denied on Saturday that the Sweden striker had arrived at the club to undergo a medical and indicated that talks were still ongoing.

"He is not in Paris to pass his medical," he told the media. "We will continue to work and give a press conference when everything is settled."

ZLATAN IBRAHIMOVIC has completed his transfer from AC Milan to big-spending French side Paris St Germain.

The Swedish international has signed a three-year deal with PSG after a fee reported to be Ł15.7million was agreed.

The 30-year-old will now link back up with former Milan team-mate Thiago Silva, who joined PSG on Saturday.

He said: "I'm finally here in Paris. It's a dream which has become reality, for me it's a big step in my career. Playing for PSG is an incredible thing.

"It's a beautiful project and one I'm happy to be a part of.

"Now that I'm here I want to play my part in the history of this club. I'm here to win and that's the most important thing.

"I've got nothing bad to say about Milan. I'll always have great memories of the Rossoneri because they gave me great joy and the whole time I spent there was great.

"Now it's time to think only of PSG. I wish Milan all the best and I hope they go on winning without me.

"I gave all I had for the shirt and I don't want to cast doubt on my great memories.

"It wasn't Massimiliano Allegri who asked for my transfer. I'm here of my own accord and that's that."

Ibrahimovic, who had a contract with Milan until June 2015, was Serie A's top scorer last season, netting 28 goals as the Rossoneri finished runners-up to Juventus.

The former Barcelona, Juve, Inter Milan and Ajax striker is the latest big-money signing to arrive in the French capital as PSG bid to win the Ligue 1 title for the first time since 1994 after finishing runners-up behind Montpellier last season.

Earlier this month PSG signed Ezequiel Lavezzi from Napoli with French media.

The French club also announced Italian Under-21 international Marco Verratti has signed from Serie A outfit Pescara.

The 19-year-old midfielder, who was called up to Italy's pre-Euro 2012 squad, is highly rated and has signed a five-year contract.

iOS 6 Blatantly Rips-Off Android

June 12, 2012

wtfisthis.jpg

(Look familiar?)

iOS 6 was announced yesterday to great fanfare. As usual, Apple unveiled a glitzy marketing campaign to tout the benefits of their "brand new" operating system. The only problem? Nearly all of the new features Apple is advertising were stolen from Google. From Facebook integration to "quick reply," Google was first to roll out the features Apple is now calling their own. This stuff makes my *la*hd boil...

Facebook Integration

Oh wow, now Apple allows users to share their photos directly with Facebook! And integrate Facebook with their contacts and calendar! Pfffff. Android has been doing this for years now. In fact, sharing almost anything is easier on Android, whether its on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.

Browser Sync

This function has been available to Android owners ever since the launch of Chrome Beta months ago. And, unlike Safari, people actually use Chrome, making the feature much more useful.

Quick Reply

Now this is just a blatant rip-off. Android Ice Cream Sandwich has always allowed users to respond to incoming calls with a quick text message that says "call you right back," or anything you'd like it to say. Apple stole this idea, and is now marketing it as their own. Figures.

Turn-By-Turn Navigation

So Apple now provides turn-by-turn navigation. Hooray! Except Google has been providing this service for years now. Apple is so behind the times.

Widgets, Offline Maps, Etc.

And then there are all the things Android provides that Apple hasn't even tried to copy, like widgets, offline maps and NFC payments. These are all features Apple owners probably know nothing about. Ignorance is bliss, right? But, due to some good marketing and nice design, the iPhone remains Android's number one competitor and Apple continues to call Android a "stolen product." Pot, meet kettle.

Diana King gay Diana King Out The Closet, YES!! I AM A LESBIAN [DETAILS]

My name is DIANA EUGENA KING, known to most as DIANA KING my fans call me KingSinga.

I AM WOMAN MOTHER ... AUNT JAMAICAN AMERICAN ... INTERNATIONAL ARTIST ... SINGER ... SONGWRITER ... BAND LEADER FRIEND ... LOVER ... ENTREPRENEUR ... GODDESS! among other things AND YES!!!

I AM A LESBIAN ... the answer to my most asked INDIRECT question.

I welcome the "WHO CARES" right now LOL.

I answer now, not because it's anyone's business BUT because IT FEELS RIGHT WITH my SOUL and I believe by not answering or hiding it all these years somehow makes it appear as if I AM ASHAMED OF IT or THAT I BELIEVE IT IS WRONG. I FEEL NEITHER OF THOSE THINGS or I would have grown my hair. But all kidding aside, I AM a private person, but sometimes, one has to step outside of their comfort zone to GROW. This here, that I'm doing, is my road. Not everyone will OR is required to travel this way. Some people will carry this fact about themselves to the grave and that's their prerogative but, a "GOOD" reputation can be a GIGANTIC LOAD in a girls backpack. I KNOW now that it's time I fully practice the meaning of my face tattoo, which is LOVE YOURSELF LIVE YOURSELF. I JUST WANT TO KEEP IT REAL.

HONESTLY SPEAKING, I have always been AFRAID to admit it openly, because of the UNKNOWN of what it may cause negatively, to me my career my family and loved ones. But  I realized that it is not my job to make others COMFORTABLE, I AM ONLY RESPONSIBLE FOR MY LIFE, the stuff U think about on your deathbed and at this point in my life I DO NOT CARE about the things that FRIGHTEN me anymore. My biggest regret is that I didn't COME OUT earlier because being silent has held me back from being ALL that I was born to be. The DEEP FEAR that I've had, especially that my own JAMAICAN PEOPLE will judge me and not accept me because of their homophobia has been a heavy burden. I fly my country's flag HIGH. Always with respect and honor everywhere I go, there is no doubt where I AM from, especially in my music. And I am nothing but PROUD of myself and my accomplishments, no one can take that away from me, IT IS already written in the History Books. But I often wonder, if  JAMROCK would have STILL been proud of me if they knew the truth from the days of SHY GUY. So even though I'm a woman of the world, living out of my massive duffle bags in different countries, week after week month after month , JAMAICA has been in my head with great LOVE and absolute FEAR. The harsh reality that people like ME are persecuted, beaten, jailed, raped and murdered everyday JUST for being who they are or JUST EVEN BEING SUSPECTED OF IT. It's what I saw too many times growing up in SPANISH TOWN and living in KINGSTON and it scared me to death. I COULDN'T WAIT TO GET OUT OF THERE. It is hard to imagine the anguish inside if you are not considered an ABOMINATION I and cannot relate personally. BUT GO AHEAD ..  IMAGINE IT for a minute.

And I can only image what it is like, living there and enduring that reality everyday 24/7 365 days of the year. I WILL NOT carry this baggage ANYMORE. In about 10 years I will B older than both my parents before they died. MY PERSONAL NEED to be 100% authentic and TRUE to myself and to make sure my children learn, especially from me, not to EVER be afraid to be WHO THEY ARE is stronger than any insecurities I may have had over the years. I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN WHO I AM from the moment I could think and had even tried to be THE OPPOSITE because of society's pressures. Trying to LIVE A LIE is horrible, whether GAY or STRAIGHT and for me, was the saddest part of it all because it only caused immense pain to everyone involved. I have been myself to the fullest ALL EXCEPT for when I came to my sexuality. And it is particularly tormenting, when U R a FREE SPIRIT. Only people who were very close knew because I told them. I've never felt comfortable being around or working with people who were UNCOMFORTABLE with that fact   and I thought for a long while that that would be enough. But it wasn't and it is not. NOT FOR ME it feels like living INCOMPLETE. I have MUCH RESPECT and deep ADMIRATION for all those who have COME OUT before me, Dead or Alive. I have stood on the sidelines COVETING your bravery. YOU and LOVE have given me the COURAGE.

I could have STAYED SAFE AND HIDDEN but for me, IT WOULD MEAN THAT ALL THOSE WHO HAVE DIED for BEING LIKE ME ALL DIED IN VAIN. JUST LIKE BLACK PEOPLE WHO DIED FOR ME SO THAT I COULD HAVE THE OPPORTUNITIES AND RIGHTS I NOW HAVE WOULD HAVE ALL DIED IN VAIN (and if U think some of them weren't gay and lesbian as well U R sadly mistaken)  BUT IF I DID NOT or DO NOT TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE FREEDOMS THEY GIVE ME AND CARRY THAT TORCH and KNOWLEDGE with DIGNITY and SHOW MY GRATITUDE and RESPECT and DO MY PART BY LIVING A LIFE THAT WOULD MAKE THEM PROUD, it would B like spitting in they faces. NOT TOO LONG AGO, I would NOT have been able to go to school much less college. Maybe I would have been ALLOWED to sing for them but NOT touch them. The mic I used would B thrown out AND I would probably have to open my legs REAL WIDE before I got paid a SMALL FRACTION of what I deserved if any at all. I would have had to use the NIGGA back door and stay in a THE NIGGA HOTEL. I couldn't fly 1st class, PLEEEEASE try NO-CLASS, a girl like me would have to take a boat and keep out of sight at the very bottom. I COULDN'T B in the presence of white people if I wasn't the maid. And if they felt HAPPY they might just celebrate by RAPING or LYNCHING ME. All because their interpretation of the BIBLE said, WE WERE LESS THAN HUMAN. I haven't forgetten the PAST, the INSANITY. And this part is hard for many to read but it is HISTORY and not meant to be a disrespect to my caucasian family. MY fans come in every shape, age, color, class and creed and I LOVE and APPRECIATED ALL of them. We've come a far way and have a ways to go, but we HAVE GROWN. I'm not here to compare to fight or defend myself or to debate wrong or right. BUT KNOW THIS!

WE ARE everywhere and everyone whether U acknowledge US or not. WE R people U love and cannot live without. WE bring U joy and entertain U. Some of U have even gotten married and made love to our songs, repeated our quotes and have our Art hanging in your homes. WE deliver your babies WE save your lives in hospitals and in wars. WE defend U in the courts and stand up for your rights. WE design the clothes and shoes U just have to have and cannot live without. U hand us your money at the banks. WE fly U to the beautiful and exciting places U love to travel to. WE give U knowledge and inspiration everyday with our words, music and dance. U eat at our restaurants and dance in our nighclubs. WE hold your hands and pray for U on your deathbeds. WE baptize U and marry U.

WE R ... your NEIGHBORS your FRIENDS and your FAMILY.

I am not seeking anyone's approval.

The people I love and care about the most, love me no matter what and my true fans love my music and my positive energy on and off-stage. I have never been disrespectful to anyone, and have repeatedly shared my deepest thoughts and feelings with you and have demonstrated my UNWAVERING LOVE and COMPASSION for humanity, time and time again thanks to social media. I have been blessed with eyes that only see a person's HEART, not the labels placed on them, whether obvious or not. And if there is a GOD .. that trait, my best quality, came straight from the ALMIGHTY. That is  WHO I AM to MY CORE and I cannot B anything else. I cannot tell where this will lead but I KNOW, I WILL B ALRIGHT and just like ths status I posted a few day ago, I have two options

"I KNOW not just BELIEVE, THAT IF I LEAP OFF THIS LEDGE INTO THE DARKNESS OF WHAT IS UNCERTAIN ... I WILL EITHER LAND ON MY FEET ON SOMETHING STRONG or I WILL GROW WINGS AND FLY.

As usual, MUCH LUV AND GOOD VIBES TO U ALL. AND IF U DECIDE NOW THAT U DO NOT "LOVE" ME ANYMORE KNOW THIS!!! NOTHING WILL EVER MAKE ME STOP LOVING U.

Goal-line technology is to be rubber stamped by football's law-makers after successful trials over its accuracy, according to sources on the International FA Board (IFAB).

hawk-eyegoalpost_275x155.jpg
Hawk-eye technology uses cameras embedded into the goal frame

Exhaustive tests on the two systems, Hawk-Eye and GoalRef, are said to have been successful and will be ratified by the IFAB next week.

The news comes in the wake of another controversial moment at a major tournament, as Ukraine had a goal disallowed in a group-deciding game with England when it was shown to be over the line.

FIFA president Sepp Blatter, who had previously resisted calls for technology to be introduced, said it was a "necessity" after the incident but his UEFA counterpart Michel Platini is still opposed.

It was Platini's idea to deploy extra match officials near to both goals as a trial during Euro 2012. He maintains it would be a "historical mistake" if goal-line technology was introduced.

Although the tests aren't thought to have proved 100% accurate in every case, they are still thought to be valuable enough to be introduced, though the IFAB are keen to stress it will be used as an aid for referees, who will still make the final call.

Both systems are designed to send an instant message to a specially adapted watch worn by the referee and have been tested in extreme weather conditions to uncover their durability.

The IFAB carries four votes on law changes, as does FIFA, with six needed to carry it through. Even if the motion is carried it will take several months for it to be introduced to stadiums.

FIFA are targeting the Cub World Championship in December as the first time they will be used for one of their tournaments.

Not yet committing to anything, both Mikey General and Khali are focused on promoting the single along with the video which was released shortly after. The video was shot and edited by Khali and it features several well respected musicians and artists.

Arsenal Football Club is delighted to announce that France international Olivier Giroud has agreed to join the Club on a long-term contract.

The 25-year old striker completed a medical before agreeing terms at the Club's training ground on Monday evening. The completion of the transfer is now just the subject of formal processes.

Giroud arrives from French champions Montpellier, where 21 goals in 36 league appearances made him the French league's joint top goalscorer last season and also earned him a place in the Ligue 1 Team of the Year.

Giroud, who enjoyed a two-year spell at the Stade de la Mosson and broke into the national team in November 2011, flew to London after representing Les Bleus at the European Championship in Ukraine and Poland.

The Chambéry-born player spent his formative years in France's lower leagues, developing his game with Grenoble, on loan at FC Istres and then at Tours FC, where he played alongside Laurent Koscielny for a season before being awarded the Ligue 2 Player of the Year award in 2009/10.

Manager Arsčne Wenger said: "We are delighted to have secured the signing of Olivier Giroud. He has a very good physical presence and is exceptional in the air, with a great work ethic. We are excited about Olivier joining us and he will add an additional dimension to our attacking options next season.

"He has proved that he is capable of performing at the top level with club and country, and we saw what a big influence he was in Montpellier's championship-winning side last season. We all look forward to Olivier joining us and seeing him play in an Arsenal shirt."

Giroud, whose contract with Arsenal will officially commence on July 1, said: "I am delighted to be here at Arsenal and to be part of one of the great teams in English football. It's a huge satisfaction to join this great club and it's been a dream since I was young to play in the Premier League.

"I was attracted by the philosophy of football and Arsčne Wenger's 'touch' at this club. I have always admired Arsenal with its great history and reputation, and I now hope to achieve great things here. I'm very proud to be a Gunner and I will give my best for all the Arsenal fans."

Giroud will join up with the Gunners for the Club's pre-season preparations ahead of the new season.

Vybz Kartel's travelling options have again been limited, as he was recently denied a work permit to perform in St Lucia.

A statement from the St Lucian government yesterday stated that Vybz Kartel will not be given a permit to perform in that country next weekend.

It said: "Having looked carefully at the significant amount of information presented, and considering the views and opinions of the many individuals and institutions as well as available options, the Government of St Lucia, through the Ministry of Labour, Information and Broadcasting, has decided not to grant a work permit to Mr Adidja Azim Palmer, otherwise known as Vybz Kartel, for performances at the Hot FM-promoted Supreme Weekend show. This show is scheduled for April 30 and May 1, 2010."

government option

It continued: "Government has written to the show promoters and has offered them the option of reapplying for the granting of work permits to the other artistes included on the show with the exclusion of Mr Adidja Azim Palmer, aka Vybz Kartel."

When contacted by THE STAR, Vybz Kartel gave no comment on the matter but noted that the decision is being appealed by the show's promoter, Patrick Smith.

Prior to the decision, a committee was set up to decided the pros and cons of the request to have Vybz Kartel there. Some of the things done included a comprehensive research of the artiste's musical repertoire; soliciting the views and opinions of key institutions and organisations in the country; reviewing the rationale given for the denial of work permits for the artiste in neighbouring countries; and determining the general impact of the artiste's performance on the population, particularly the youth, amidst consistent calls for higher ethical standards and morals from a wide range of persons and institutions in society.

"The Government is cognisant that St Lucia is part of the CARICOM grouping and we will, as we have been doing, encourage and facilitate the free movement of artistes. However, the administration holds the firm view that artistes, promoters and Government have a shared responsibility as much as possible to ensure that standards prevail to the benefit of the country, particularly to the vulnerable youth in our midst," the statement said, noting that the government hopes to facilitate public forums to inform its approach in the future.

SHINJI KAGAWA has sealed his move to Manchester United from Borussia Dortmund on a four-year deal.

The Japan midfielder passed a medical at Old Trafford earlier today, obtained a UK work permit and agreed a contract commencing on July 1.

The two clubs agreed a transfer fee earlier this month believed to be worth up to Ł17million.

Red Devils boss Alex Ferguson said: "Shinji is an exciting young midfielder with great skill, vision and a good eye for goal.

"I am delighted he has chosen to come to United.

"I believe he will make an impact upon the team very quickly as he is suited to Uniteds style of play.

"We are all looking forward to working with him."

Kagawa, 23, added: "This is a challenge I am really looking forward to.

"The Premier League is the best league in the world and Manchester United is such a massive club.

"This is a really exciting time for me. I can't wait to meet the team and start playing."

0614-brown2-2.jpg10:55 AM PT -- Drake's rep just issued a statement about the incident, insisting Drizzy wasn't involved in the brawl at all ... the beef was between CB and another rapper named Meek Mill.

10:15 AM PT --
A witness who was inside the club tells TMZ ... Chris Brown did NOT send any bottles over to Drake's table, despite several reports to the contrary.

We're told both Brown and Drake had been hanging out in the VIP section ... when Drake began pointing and yelling at Brown.

Brown began yelling back ... and that's when members of both entourages rushed in and began shoving each other.

With tensions running high, someone threw a bottle -- which set the whole thing off ... and the shoving turned to punches.

We're told club security rushed in to break up the fight ... and called police for backup. Brown and Drake left the scene by the time cops showed up ... but several members of their entourages remained at the club.  Multiple members of both crews required medical assistance.

We're told the club suffered some serious damage in the fight -- including busted up tables, broken mirrors, shattered lighting and glass scratches all over the floors.

Chris Brown
sustained a nasty gash on his chin -- apparently a wound from a bottle attack -- after his entourage allegedly clashed with Drake's crew in a NYC nightclub brawl.

TMZ has confirmed with the NYPD that the two singers' crews got into a fight at WIP nightclub -- 5 people were injured in the melee.

NYPD arrived on the scene after receiving a call between 4 and 5am. Chris and Drake were not present when cops arrived.

Since the release of her single African song for Ghana based record label S-Dee Music, Karamantis brand has climbed significantly in the West African nation. In addition to getting steady radio rotation for not just African song but other Karamanti tracks as well, she is also being approached by several artists and producers from the region desiring to work with her.

Based on the rapid growth of brand Karamanti, the producer, Strike Dee, who is also a media personality and disc jockey, has designed a series of T-shirts which are being called Karamanti African song t-shirt. They are being sold to the public and the general consensus is that since the launch they have been getting good support.

Persons may listen and download African song here: http://soundcloud.com/karamanti/karamanti-african-song

And anyone wanting to purchase Karamanti African song T-shirts may do so by sending an email to S-Dee Music at strikedee@yahoo.comrk was W tOand only Tuff Gong Studio by Mastering Engineer Gary Sutherland. Vocally the track is led by the Taylor Bwoys, but top vocal performer Paul Lymie Murray also lends his talent to the single in a most melodic and harmonic manner. A video for the song is currently in production.

When asked about the purpose of the collaboration, both Taylor Bwoys agree that it was within the fulfilment of their divine purpose. Give thanks to Jah for these moments that I will cherish for eternity. Those were the words of Khali Taylor when asked how he felt about the project, whilst his Jamaican counterpart, Mikey, can be quoted as saying, I am very pleased with the quality of work, and Give thanks to Jah for sending the brother my way.

So it seems that similarly to the smash hit original version which was released in 1997, the remake promises to follow the same path, the path of success. Already a hit within the Rastafarian Nation on the island, it seems only a matter of time till the song spreads to the streets, the dancehalls and the rest of the Caribbean on a massive scale. The Taylors are hoping that the project will serve as an example of the Love of Rastafari and the Strength of Unity. An example that they hope their respective nations will take heed of and observe, but just as it is in every other story, we will have to wait for time to tell it.

In August 2011 business men Carl Cameron and Fulton Gunning got together and created Tube Jamaica.

Tube Jamaica is a website which operates very similar to you tube with a specific uniqueness to Jamaican content. For the past 10 months the men and their team have been busy testing the site to ensure that it works effectively. Now confident in the site's operation, they would like to introduce it to the public and encourage Jamaicans at home and abroad to register and express themselves.

The address is www.tubejamaica.com. It allows members to maintain a profile which includes their picture, listing some of their favorite things and of course uploading and watching their favorite Jamaican videos. The site also has a section which highlights feature videos; this will especially be beneficial for Jamaican artists, producers and record labels seeking maximum exposure.

An official launch will occur later in the year but for now the doors to www.tubejamaica.com are open and all are welcome. Persons wanting additional information on the site are encouraged to email tubejamaica2@gmail.com

jamaica+trinidad+reggae.jpg

Historically, Trinidad and Tobago and Jamaica have not shared the unity that Caribbean people should aspire to. In fact, both countries have engaged in petty rivalries which have served to do little more than divide their people further. The recent musical collaboration between two of the countries reggae singers, Mikey General (Michael Taylor) of Jamaica and Khali (Khalfani Taylor) of Trinidad, however, serves as an example of the love and unity between the two Caribbean nations.

Brought together by their shared Rastafarian faith, both Taylor Bwoys have united their vocals on a revived version of the Rastafarian anthem, 1997 Exterminator hit, Ms. Taylor Bwoy. Given their shared surname and their shared experience in finding Rastafari, the track was an obvious choice for the collaboration.

Produced by Good Vibes Entertainment, a newly founded production house which is also the result of the collaboration between both Taylor Bwoys, the song is a true representation of the greatness that is known as Jamaicas reggae music history. Recorded and mixed by Anthony Al Graham at the islands famous Cell Block Studio, the single boasts of an all star musical cast, Kirk Kirkledove Bennett on the drums, Donald Bassy Dennis on the bass and guitar and Paul Wrong Move Crossdaleon the keyboard.  Mastering work was done at the one and only Tuff Gong Studio by Mastering Engineer Gary Sutherland. Vocally the track is led by the Taylor Bwoys, but top vocal performer Paul Lymie Murray also lends his talent to the single in a most melodic and harmonic manner.
