After six months Busy Signal is finally free. He was serving time in Minnesota, USA after pleading guilty to charges of failure to appear in court in relation to cocaine trafficking charges in 2002 . He arrived back in Jamaica late Saturday night and was greeted by his manager, elephant man and hosts of other persons.

Glendale Gordon which is the reggae singers real name had been fined a sum of money to the tune of $30,000 and was later sentenced to 6 month in prison. This was done by Minnesota State District Court Judge Donovan W. Frank for absconding bail related to drug trafficking charges brought against him 10 years ago.

The weekend Star understands that one man was seriously injured at a 'wake' held in the community ofFlankers, Montego Bay, St James, after thugs demanded that a selector stopped playing Tommy Leesongs.

Information reaching our news team is that the community now rests in fear, as there is an apparent divide in support for the dancehall artiste.

It is reported that a wake for an elderly woman was in session on Saturday night, when the selector was asked not to play anymore Tommy Lee tunes.

The selector, our news team was told, did not take heed to the warning, as another song for the artiste was selected, following which the said selector was subsequently roughed up by a hostile group of people.

Several persons reportedly intervened, and the group left the area and returned, opening fire on the gathering.

Our news team understands the incident took place in a section of the community called Vietnam, the zone which is considered Tommy Lee's 'Sparta Base'.

A resident of the community expressed, "True ting man. Man nose get shoot off, finger gone and mi hear even ears! ... The irony is dat is dung pon Tommy Lee base."

gunshot wounds

THE WEEKEND STAR was told that when the group returned, several shots rang out and when the shooting subsided the man was found suffering from gunshot wounds all over his body.

Our news team was told that he was rushed to the hospital, however, the extent of his injuries are unknown.

THE WEEKEND STAR spoke to a member of the gathering who expressed, "Mi nah lie to yuh a town mi leave from go MoBay and mi never know a so di yute dem dung deh gwan over certain things ... It serious we haffi tek weh we self and go elsewhere that night ... A morning we wake and hear say di breda drop out ... then we hear afterward that him nuh dead, he is in serious condition in hospital."

A senior officer attached to the Montego Bay Police Division confirmed the shooting incident, however, he was tight-lipped when quizzed on the motive for the shooting.

He said, "The police are aware of such reports and that at least two persons have been held so far for questioning in relation to the shooting ... I was not on duty on the weekend so I could not confirm the reason for the attack."

"True ting man. Man nose get shoot off, finger gone and mi hear even ears!"

MIAMI - CONCACAF announced that the schedule of play for the fourth and final round of the CONCACAF Qualifiers to the FIFA World Cup Brazil 2014 was determined Wednesday evening through a random drawing performed in Miami by FIFA Head of World Cup and Olympic Qualifying, Mr. Gordon Savic. As a result of the drawing, the first round of matches in the CONCACAF Hexagonal round, which will begin on Wednesday, February 6th, 2013, will feature Mexico hosting Jamaica, Honduras hosting United States, and Panama hosting Costa Rica.

The six countries that have advanced to the CONCACAF Hexagonal -- Costa Rica, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Panama, and the United States -- represent the top two finishers from group play in the third round of FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. In the Hexagonal round, each team will play every other twice-once at home, once away-for a total of 10 matches per team, and 30 matches total. The top three teams at the end of the Hexagonal round will automatically advance to the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. The fourth place team will advance to an intercontinental playoff, where it will compete against the first place team from the Oceania Football Confederation in a home-and-home match-up in November of 2013.

"We want to thank FIFA for holding this draw as we are proud for our six Member Associations who will be competing for the honor of representing CONCACAF at the next FIFA World Cup," said CONCACAF President Jeffrey Webb. "This process is a clear example of the integration among all Federations who are committed to safeguarding football standards and encourage authentic rivalry and competition. Guided by principles of sharp vision and a strategy of continuous expansion, this region is developing strength to reach all-time highs.

"After a very exciting third round in the CONCACAF qualifiers we are very much looking forward to the last stage to begin and to successfully continue delivering together with the finalists the remainder of this competition," said FIFA Head of World Cup and Olympic Qualifying Gordon Savic. "The opening matches in February are just around the corner and we shall immediately start coordinating these matches with the respective host Member Associations. We wish all national teams the best of luck under the umbrella of Fair Play and sportsmanship."

Representatives from each of the six countries were on hand for the drawing, including (in alphabetical order by Member Association): Rodolfo Villalobos - Member of the Executive Committee, Costa Rican Football Federation; Alvaro Mesén - General Secretary, Costa Rican Football Federation; Jorge Hidalgo - Vice President, Costa Rican Football Federation; Alfredo Hawit - General Secretary, Honduran Football Federation; Mateo Ybrin - Honduran National Teams Committee Member; Capt. There has been a persistent rumor here in Jamaica that further to their ban on daggering and bleeped songs earlier this year, the Broadcasting commission is now building a list of blacklisted songs that should not be aired on public radio and television. Below is an unconfirmed list of 200 alleged blacklisted songs that has been circulated via Facebook and other websites over the past few days.

Weve highlighted in bold the Jamaican songs on the list, but given that some of the songs arent known to have been banned in the past, Dancehall.Mobi is not convinced that this list is indeed authentic, and in fact it seems more likely that it is a prank / spoof (especially since some of the Jamaican songs on this list offer strong social commentary without the use of expletives and bleeps). Notably there are also some inaccuracies on the list, with songs being credited to the wrong artiste.

Wyclef Jean Shot In Hati

March 20, 2011
Started By DUGGYFRESH5 Comments

Wyclef Jean has reportedly been shot at during a trip to his native Haiti.

The former Fugees member was visiting the country to lend his support to presidential candidate Michael Martelly, during Martelly's preparations for the final round of elections against former First Lady Mirlande Manigat.

A car he was riding in was attacked and shot at as he was driving through the capital of Port-au-Prince, accompanied by friend and fellow artist Busta Rhymes and the record executive Jimmy Rosemond. The three traveled to Haiti to take part in a concert to support Martelly's bid for presidency.

The 'If I Were President: The Haitian Experience' creator's right hand was injured by a bullet, but it seems no other injuries were incurred by Wyclef or the other passengers. Wyclef's representatives confirmed the shooting and tweeted, "We have spoken to Wyclef, he is OK. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers."

Wyclef's hand was struck by a bullet in Port-au-Prince around 11PM, his publicist said on Sunday. "He is doing well," Cindy Tanenbaum told CNN. No other details about the incident were revealed. However, a photo of Wyclef has since emerged online here, showing the entertainer lying on what appears to be a hospital bed, his right hand bandaged and his left hand resting over his face.

JOBI McANUFF heads a list of six Premier League stars to be asked to play for Jamaica.

The Reading captain will be offered the chance to join the Reggae Boyz during a 12-day meet-and-greet mission.

Royals team-mates Gareth McLeary and Shaun Cummings, along with Newcastle's Danny Simpson and James Perch plus Swansea winger Nathan Dyer, are also on the hitlist.

Jamaica FA president Horace Burrell said: "We want the best 11 players on the field and we plan to pull out all the stops to achieve that."

They will also try and persuade Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling not to play for England.

DANADI-23.jpg

Up-and-coming deejay,Da'nandi strives to ascend within the Dancehall genre as he continues to make himself a familiar name amongst peers and fans.
Born Andrique Wright, theSherlock Crescent (Kingston) native developed a natural love for music; writing his first song at the tender age of 9. While attending Jamaica College, Da'nandi involved himself in lyrical clashes while also perfecting the art of freestyling. Such musical aspects built the young deejay into an all-rounded artiste.

Following years of hard work, Da'nandi began showcasing his musical growth on a grander scale; releasing his debut single, Tell Me When in October 2010. The Weapon X International produced single showcased Da'nandi's lyrical ingenuity and vocal range while earning the young deejay airplay locally and overseas.
From there, Da'nandi continued building momentum within the industry; earning a few stage show appearances and appearing of various mixtapes.

In 2011, Da'nandi's refused to allow complacency to set in as he appeared on an unofficial remix of hip hop superstar, Nicki Minaj's internationally-acclaimed single, Moment for Life. Additionally, the emerging artiste has unveiled efforts such as the S-Lock Records produced Party Vibez and the song, Mi Love It on the Weapon X produced, Nanko Riddim.

Da'nandi's first video could soon be in the works as he looks to stamp his authority within Dancehall as he enters his sophomore year as a mainstream act. The young starlet is an artiste to watch for in 2012.

UP-and-coming artiste Andrique 'Da'Nandi' Wright is determined to be one of dancehall's greatest.

The 21-year-old deejay said he takes time to craft his songs to perfection with the hope to get that hit single that will propel him into the spotlight.

danandi.jpg

According to Da'Nandi, his journey began as a poet but later changed when he realised he could better voice his opinions through music.

"At first, I started out writing poems, because I'm not really an expressive person. But doing music, I found myself saying things that I would not normally say. So music is my voice for expressing myself," Da'Nandi told the Jamaica Observer.

Starting his musical career at age 15, he was introduced to Jamaica in 2007 at Reggae In the Valley stage show in St Elizabeth where he performed his first song, Tell Mi When.

Encouraged by the warm reception, Wright signed to the Stewie Jamaica Production went on to officially release the single in June 2011. It was followed up by his most recent Up In D Club. Both tracks were produced by Shawn 'Trigga' Murgasen on the Weapon X International Label.

The Jamaica College past student, who hails from Red Hills in St Andrew, regards Sizzla Kolonji and Vybz Kartel as his musical role models. He, however, describes his music as a reflection of himself.

"I sing about what I and persons around me experience, and things that I want to achieve in life," he said.

Cousin of reggae artiste Fantan Mojah, Da'Nandi is bent on making a name for himself and believes that his creative mind is what will take him through.

This summer, the deejay will be releasing seven singles from various labels both locally and overseas. This includes Stop Chat by Sugar Entertainment, Lyrical Gandi by Yard Link Label and Hunt Mi A Hunt by Solid Empire Production in the United Kingdom.

Wright is also set on doing a collaboration with UK rapper Oranje2000, a video for his single Up In D Club, and a medley entitled Multi-organism which is to be produced by Red Square & DJ Glamour Productions

The National Water Commission (NWC) has been adjudged Best-Tasting Drinking Water in the region.

The decision was arrived at by a panel of water experts at the 21st Annual Caribbean Water and Wastewater Association conference and exhibition held at the Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island in The Bahamas last week.

Twenty-five regional water utilities were invited to submit samples of their best-tasting tap water. However, only six other utilities from the region submitted samples for the contest from their systems.

The NWC's Jason Oliphant from the Quality Assurance, Control and the Environment Unit collected, bottled and submitted tap-water samples from the Seaview Water Treatment Plant.

Robert Pickersgill, minister of water, land, environment and climate change, welcomed the judges' decision saying, "Without a doubt, it has been established long ago that Jamaica has the best-tasting water in the region."

"Jamaica can now be dubbed not only as 'land of wood and water', but also is now recognised as being blessed with the best water in the region."

Don Streete, NWC's quality assurance, control and the environment manager, said the commision entered the contest fully confident and expecting to win based on the proven track record of the NWC's service delivery across Jamaica.

The owners of Tube Jamaica have done it again! They have created a virtual Jamaica in the form of a website that captures everything Jamaican (www.myjamazon.com).

Based on their passion for Jamaica as well as their individual experiences with the Jamaican Diaspora both men (Fulton Gunning and Carl Cameron) thought it necessary to create a website dedicated to keeping Jamaicans abroad connected with their home, as such, My Jamaican Zone was formed.

The company started in mid 2011 but was not officially launched until the summer of 2012. My Jamaican Zone caters to, and represents Jamaicans and Jamaicas culture by making television and radio programs unique to Jamaica, available to those living abroad. The site also has fourteen chat rooms, each representing a parish so that persons can connect with individuals from their parish. Additionally, the site has a games room which features some of Jamaicans favorite games such as ludo and domino. There is a directory which will have all Jamaican owned businesses around the world listed and they are launching a store on the website in approximately one month from now. The store will only sell Jamaican made products.

Jamaicans and lovers of Jamaican culture are asked to visit the site, become a member and tell a friend. This is Your Jamaican Zone; www.myjamazon.com

JOHN TERRY picked up 78 caps for England over nine years.

But as he announced his international retirement last night, there were few tears.

Certainly not from the many fans who have grown to dislike a player who, nevertheless, remains this country's best defender by a distance.

Some people still love Terry. Many people hate him.

Yet you cannot ignore the fact that on the evening Terry called time on playing for England, he was still a crucial member of Roy Hodgson's first-team.

The Chelsea centre-back, 31, chose to turn his back on the national side just hours before he was due to begin an FA hearing into the saga with Anton Ferdinand.

This could be seen as slightly childish - but clearly his anger with the FA runs deep.

It is a shame, though, that Terry's international career has ended in this way. At Euro 2012, he was outstanding for his country.

It was easy to ridicule England in Poland and Ukraine but defensively, Hodgson's side were as good as any other.

In Moldova a couple of weeks ago, Terry was superb and carried a below-par Joleon Lescott.

That was until Terry picked up an ankle injury.

With England cruising towards victory, Hodgson wanted him to leave the pitch with 20 minutes to go, even though it would have left the team down to 10 men. Yet being the *la*hdy-minded, stubborn character he is, Terry refused.

Instead, he hobbled along until a couple of minutes from time when he could continue no longer. That will be remembered as his final England performance.

After the match in Moldova, Roy Hodgson called him "a gladiator" although this latest FA charge is clearly a battle Terry feels he will not win.

It is still ridiculous that such a courageous, talented player, with at least one major tournament left in him, has decided to quit.

Terry's career has been a soap opera and, at times, an unsavoury one. From upsetting American tourists after 9/11, a court case following an altercation with a nightclub bouncer to being incredibly friendly with his best mate's ex-missus.

Yet his spat with Ferdinand took this situation to a new level.

As you would expect after the club's Champions League win in May, Terry will remain a God in the eyes of most Chelsea fans.

But equally, in Munich, Terry laughably attempted to change history by appearing in celebrations in his full Chelsea kit despite missing the game through suspension.

SURELY only The Legend Thierry Henry would have the Bulls to try and score from a corner!

And that's exactly what the Arsenal legend did as he scored from an impossibly-angled set-piece to help his MLS side New York Red Bulls to a 3-1 win over Columbus Crew.

QPR have confirmed the signing of Real Madrid midfielder Esteban Granero on a four-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

Granero, 25, has made 60 appearances for Los Blancos and manager Mark Hughes believes QPR will benefit hugely from the signing.

"He is a great player, first and foremost. You don't play at a club like Real Madrid if you're not," he told the club website. "He has been there from the age of nine, so this has been a huge decision for him. He is very well regarded there and for him to leave a club of that stature to come to us shows the belief he has in what we are trying to do.

"He has got great energy and is technically very gifted, as you would expect from a Real Madrid player. He is very comfortable on the ball and is an all-round excellent midfielder, which we will benefit from."

Hughes added: "What we are doing at QPR is having an impact on players. It is probably true to say that if we had approached certain players three or four months ago about joining the club, the suggestion wouldn't have been entertained.

"But people now know we are serious and we are trying to do something different here. And that message is out there now which is why we are able to sit in front of quality players and once we are given that opportunity, we feel we have a good story to tell them. That's why players are deciding that QPR is a great option."

Granero, who will wear the No. 14 shirt at Loftus Road, told the website: "I'm very happy to be here. I love the passion of the English fans and from what I know QPR supporters are amongst the very best.

"I think QPR will continue to grow as a club and I want to be part of a very bright future here. When I spoke to Mark and Mike (Rigg), as well as Tony (Fernandes) I was convinced that I wanted to be part of this project, which has no limits.

"I am delighted to be part of this exciting chapter in the club's history. Players that have joined before me are as excited as I am about what QPR can become, one of the great teams in England."

MOUSA DEMBELE has completed his £15million move to Tottenham.

The Belgium international passed a medical this afternoon and put pen to paper on a five-year deal.

Dembele moves after an impressive two-season spell at Fulham where he made 74 appearances and scored seven goals after signing from AZ Alkmaar.

He tweeted: "I would like to thank all the Fulham fans for their support! You were amazing!"

Spurs' swoop for the playmaker comes just 48 hours after the £30m sale of Luka Modric to Real Madrid.

And it looks set to be another frantic final two days of the transfer window at White Hart Lane.

Rafael van der Vaart has been heavily linked with a move back to Hamburg with the Germans today declaring that they were desperate to re-sign the Dutch star.

Chairman Carl-Edgar Jarchow said: "There is not a lot of time - it is really up to Tottenham Hotspur.

"If we have a chance to sign him, we will do everything we can to make that happen."

Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas has also renewed the interest he showed while Chelsea boss in Shakhtar Donetsk forward Willian.

Shakhtar chief executive Sergei Palkin today claimed he had rejected a bid of just under £12m for the Brazilian and that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy had also made an enquiry about two other players.

Palkin said: "Mr Levy, the chairman of Tottenham Hotspur FC, personally flew to Donetsk to negotiate over Willian.

"But his latest offer was 15 million euros, which we of course did not accept.

"Levy, by the way, hinted that besides Willian, Villas-Boas was interested in Douglas Costa and Fernandinho, but he mentioned that just casually, without any specifics."

Brazil goalkeeper Julio Cesar is to join QPR on a four-year deal, subject to receiving international clearance and being granted a visa.

The 32-year-old has agreed a contract until the summer of 2016, ending his seven-year stint with Inter Milan.

Cesar, who has won 64 caps for his country, told www.qpr.co.uk: "I'm so happy and excited to be here.

"The ambition of this club was presented to me by the chairman and the coach and I couldn't have been more impressed.

"The desire to achieve things at this club is clear for everyone to see and I wanted to be part of that. I have come here to compete for the shirt and give my all."

Cesar, who won the Champions League and five Serie A titles with Inter, was spotted yesterday at Loftus Road, where he was discussing terms ahead of Rangers' 3-0 Capital One Cup second-round victory over Walsall.

Manager Mark Hughes was thrilled to add a goalkeeper of Cesar's quality to his squad.

"It's fantastic that we've been able to attract a keeper of such outstanding ability to the club," the Welshman said on www.qpr.co.uk.

"When the opportunity to sign a player of his quality presents itself, you have to act quickly and we've managed to get the deal done.

"It was always my intention to bring two goalkeepers to the club this summer and now we've got fantastic competition in that department."

Hughes added: "He's an outstanding individual, as well as being an outstanding player.

"Not only will we benefit from his ability, but we'll also benefit from his experience and winning mentality." Cesar, who will wear the number 33 shirt, is likely to be in contention for the club's next home game against Chelsea - after the international break - on September 15.

And the South American cannot wait to get started, adding: "The English Premier League is the best division in the world.

"Everyone wants to play here and I am no different. Now I just want to give my all to the club and show the fans what I am capable of.

"This is a really exciting move for me and I can't wait to get going."

VYBZ-KARTEL-AND-GAZA-SLIM-300x300.jpg

Its a literal case of he said-she said as the fallout from the recent disbanding of the Portmore Empire continues with one former member Gaza Slim calling out another in Popcaan following a statement released to the public on Monday.

The Only Man She Want deejay issued a detailed press release addressing several pressing issues, from his relationship with former mentor, Vybz Kartel to the reasoning behind him not being a member of PG13, a new label spearheaded by Kartel which features Tommy Lee and the aforementioned Gaza Slim. In said release, Popcaan insisted that he was not able to visit the self-professed Worl Boss given that he was advised against making visitations to the jail where Kartel had been held at and that Di Teacha himself suggested through letter that he should stay away from the police. Additionally, Popcaan insisted that he remains grateful to Vybz Kartel for providing him with several musical opportunities and that hes forever loyal to the Gaza.
A day after Popcaan broke his silence, Gaza Slim, whose also known as Vanessa Bling issued a statement of her own, steadfastly refuting the When We Party deejays account of these events while revealing the apparent discord that existed between Popcaan and Vybz Kartel after the latters arrest last September.
In the statement, Gaza Slim says, Everyone is releasing statements Re: Portmore Empire, some more truthful than others so I think its time to release mine. In a statement released by Popcaan (which I doubt was written by him considering how grammatically correct it was) is nothing but lies in an attempt at keeping the support of Gaza fans, and by Gaza, I mean Kartel because he is Gaza.
Firstly, before his arrest, Kartel did bookings for Popcaan, which was handled by Calvin Haye and Andre Henry, not by the World Boss himself, as we all know he staffs to do these things. As Kartel was arrested, Popi immediately diverted his bookings way from Moonie and Pim Pim who were not arrested as yet, to other people, although the boss had invested time and money for which he has not been recompensed. Secondly, when the boss was arrested he was held at a small jail where anyone could have visited. I know because I did. Popi didnt visit because a certain producer told him to stay far from Kartel, him nah see back road. Thirdly, in his statement, Popcaan said that he and Kartel spoke through letters. I see the Boss in court regularly so I know thats a lie. The only thing Teacha say when I ask if Popi link him is Me nuh wah see him. Yuh nuh see how him a move. Me wish him the best.
Following her explanation, the emerging singjay had a pair of messages for her former Portmore Empire group mate.
I just want to say to Popcaan:
1. Stop the lies. You and I know that World Boss nuh want nothing from you cause dem man deh full a pride, an him pay all a we lawyer fee.
2. The reverse psychology that youre using to try look decent, a Kartel teach you that. So dont try use it on his fans, because I was there when the white man asked you if you were going to visit Kartel and you said Why me haffi go?
Lastly, stop send out statement bout bare badness backa dat. Maybe a people you a try impress but, sigh, me haffi laugh. Thats all I am going to say. This is my only statement on the Portmore Empire.

AUSANNE, Switzerland (AP) - Usain Bolt was fast and impressive at the Athletissima Diamond League meeting yesterday. Yohan Blake was fast and maybe even more impressive.

Bolt, the Olympic champion and world record-holder over 100 and 200 metres, timed 19.58 seconds in the fastest 200m ever run at the speedy Lausanne track.

Yet he was almost overshadowed by Blake, his Jamaican friend and rival who 20 minutes earlier closed the gap between them in the all-time 100 rankings.

Blake, a two-time Olympic silver medallist behind Bolt, clocked 9.69 to become the joint second-fastest man in history.

"9.69 is a wonderful result," said Bolt, who ran that time when setting a then-world record at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. "I knew he is going to push real hard tonight."

Blake, fighting off a post-London Games cold, overcame a slight headwind to shave .06 off his previous best. He ran 9.75 to beat Bolt in the Jamaican Olympic Trials in June and the same time again when his training partner finished in 9.63 to defend his Olympic title earlier this month.

"I knew I was fast and my coach told me I could run faster," said Blake, who shares coach Glen Mills with Bolt. "Today I could finally prove it."

Blake made a fast start and an impressive driving finish to equal the 9.69 run by Tyson Gay of the United States in 2009. Gay trailed in Blake's wake yesterday, placing second in 9.83.

"I have been working for that. Now it all comes together," Blake said. "My performance proves it."

Still, Bolt's world record of 9.58 to win gold at the 2009 world championships is at a different level, and his fooling on the start line yesterday suggests he is at ease with Blake's challenge.

After playing air guitar for the television cameras, Blake used the 1.4 metres per second of wind assistance to set an Athletissima record, 0.26 behind his gold medal-winning time in London.

"This season has not always been great, but I'm thrilled with the way it is finishing," Bolt said.

However, the season is unlikely to climax with another Bolt vs Blake match. They are set to avoid each other in the final two Diamond League meets, at Zurich next Thursday and Brussels a week later.

In the Women's 100m, Carmelita Jeter reversed the London placings with Olympic champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce of Jamaica in a photo finish, with both timing 10.86. The American silver medallist never led until attacking hard at the line, as Fraser-Pryce lost her lead by failing to make the dip she needed for victory.

"Basically, it was an Olympic final," Jeter said. "It was an epic moment, but I thought I got to bring this home."

Dawn Harper earned another United States victory in the 100 hurdles, and Olympic champion Kirani James of Grenada confirmed his superiority in the Men's 400, clocking 44.37 in a comfortable victory.

One gold medallist who never got to race was 110 hurdles champion Aries Merritt, who was disqualified for a false start. That left another American, Olympic silver medallist Jason Richardson, to step up for the victory in 13.09.

Valerie Adams of New Zealand, the only Olympic champion without a gold medal, won the shot put with a meet record in the final round of 20.95 metres - 25 centimetres beyond her London performance.

Adams must wait to receive her medal until original winner Nadzeya Astapchuk of Belarus, who tested positive for a steroid, completes an appeal against her disqualification by the International Olympic Committee.

Kaliese Spencer of Jamaica won the 400 hurdles, and Kenyans won the middle-distance events: Pamela Jelimo, the 2008 Beijing Olympic champion, won the 800 and Mercy Cherono took the 3,000 race.

Rooney faces four weeks out

Wayne Rooney was sent to hospital and could miss four weeks of football after suffering a deep gash to his right leg in Manchester Uniteds 3-2 win against Fulham on Saturday.

With Fulham pressing for an equaliser in the games dying stages, Rooney bravely threw himself in the way of a Hugo Rodallega shot. The former Wigan forwards boot came down on Rooneys right thigh as he followed through, however, and inflicted a nasty wound.

Rooney initially jumped to his feet but was soon holding his leg at the knee and pointing to the cut. Referee Kevin Friend stopped the game immediately and, after lengthy treatment, Rooney left the pitch on a stretcher.

Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed Rooney was sent straight to hospital and fears the Reds could lose the striker for a month.

It's a very bad one, he told MUTV. He's gone to hospital. Obviously it looks as he'll be out for maybe four weeks.

I don't know what happened. I think the player must have followed through after he shot. He's got a bad one.

Liverpool have completed the loan signing of Nuri Sahin from Real Madrid.

Sahin, 23, had attracted interest from Arsenal and Tottenham but Liverpool confirmed on Saturday morning that they had agreed a season-long loan deal with the Spanish champions.

The Turkey international passed a medical later in the day and the formalities of the transfer have now been confirmed.

Sahin told the Liverpool official website: "I know a lot about Liverpool Football Club - I know it is a very big club with a huge history, with big players and big trophies. When they won the biggest trophy in 2005, I was in the stadium in Istanbul. It was my first taste of Liverpool.

"That year, I won the European Under-17 Championship with Turkey, so we were invited by the Turkish Football Federation to watch the game.

"We were sitting near to where the Liverpool fans were and it was just a crazy, crazy night. It was then I saw what football and Liverpool Football Club means to the people."

Sahin also revealed that he had spoken to former Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso "a lot of times" before making the move.

"Xabi is a person who really cares about football," he said. "He's in love with football. I'm the same, and that's why we had a lot of conversations.

"When I arrived at Real Madrid, we spoke about German football and Italian football. He likes football! When he heard Liverpool were interested in me, he started telling me about Liverpool.

"He is still in love with Liverpool Football Club, I think. It's crazy how he was telling me about Liverpool. He was saying, 'Go there - you will love it. The fans will take care of you and love you' and things like that. He said Anfield is the best stadium in the world. Xabi won a lot of trophies here, and hopefully we can do that too."

Liverpool also confirmed that Sahin will wear the No. 4 shirt during his time at Anfield.

VICTOR MOSES has tonight sealed his dream £9million move to Chelsea after passing a Stamford Bridge medical.

The Blues agreed a fee with Wigan for the 21-year-old winger on Thursday.

And personal terms were thrashed out today to finally put an end to one of the biggest transfer sagas of the summer.

Moses appeared for the Latics against the European champions in their Premier League opener at the DW Stadium last Sunday.

The Nigeria international scored eight goals in 74 league appearances for Wigan after joining them in a £2.5m deal from Crystal Palace in January 2010.

SWANSEA have signed midfielder Ki Sung-Yeung from Celtic for an undisclosed club-record fee.

The South Korean has signed a three-year contract and will move to the Liberty Stadium subject to a work permit and international clearance.

Ki said: "This is something I have dreamt about since I was a child - playing in the Premier League against the best players in the world.

"I can't wait to play my first game.

"When I look at Swansea I see a club that is growing and growing, and the style here is very attractive to me.

"Last year I watched them a lot in the Premier League and they did things very differently to a lot of the other teams.

"They wanted to keep the ball and pass it around, which I love to do.

"When they didn't have the ball they worked so hard to get it back quickly.

"It was very impressive, and I think I can grow as a player here and help the club move forward.

"The manager is another big attraction. I remember watching him when I was younger and I was amazed by how good he was.

"Now I want to learn from him in order to help me become a better player. I learned a lot at Celtic - it helped me become more of an all-round player."

Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins added: "Having lost Joe Allen recently, it was vital that we invested the money wisely by bringing quality young footballers into the club with potential to grow further.

"Ki fulfils that criteria and everyone in the football club is excited about the prospect of him playing and developing with us."

Spanish defender Cesar Azpilicueta has completed his move to Chelsea from Marseille.

The 22-year-old right-back has joined the European champions in a deal reportedly worth £7million.

Azpilicueta, who has represented Spain at several youth levels and played at the Olympics this summer, missed Marseille's Europa League qualifier against FC Sheriff Tiraspol as he travelled to London to complete the deal.

Marseille confirmed the move in a statement on their website. "Cesar Azpilicueta transfer to Chelsea's is official. The Spanish defender has signed with the Champions of Europe 2012," the statement said.

Azpilicueta made the last of his 69 appearances for Marseille in last weekend's 2-0 victory over Sochaux.

He joined the French club in 2010 from Osasuna, and although he suffered a serious knee injury in his first season on the Mediterranean coast, he went on to establish himself as the club's first-choice right-back.

Chelsea confirmed the deal with a statement on their own website. "Chelsea Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Cesar Azpilicueta," the club said.

"The 22-year-old right-back, who recently represented Spain at the London Olympics, arrives at Stamford Bridge following a two-year spell in France's Ligue 1 with Marseille."

MARTIN O'NEILL has sealed a stunning £24million double swoop by adding Adam Johnson to the capture of Steven Fletcher.

The Sunderland boss insists he has not paid over the odds for the £14m Scotland striker, who has signed a four-year deal worth £6m.

O'Neill now hopes former Wolves favourite Fletcher will hit it off with Johnson (below).

The Black Cats chief landed the England winger for £10m after persuading the player to end his turbulent 2½-year spell at Manchester City.

Like Fletcher, Johnson has agreed a four-year deal.

O'Neill insisted: "Adam is a top-quality player and it's important we add quality to our squad."

Fletcher goes into the squad for today's clash with Reading after sealing a transfer that has dragged on all summer.

O'Neill said: "I have no problem with the fee for Steven. For a centre- forward who can score and bring people into play, and whos been involved in the Premier League, I'm happy."

TOTTENHAM last night signed Emmanuel Adebayor on a frantic day of transfer activity at White Hart Lane.

Adebayor, 28, agreed a four-year, £80,000-a-week deal after getting a mega pay-off from Manchester City.

Spurs also sold defender Sebastien Bassong to Norwich for £4million and, in a shock twist, agreed a £9m fee for Michael Dawson to join QPR.

Dawson, 28, was named club captain at a glitzy shirt launch just last month but failed to make Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas' squad at the weekend as they went down 2-1 at Newcastle.

Striker Adebayor should have no such problems, though, as Tottenham are desperate for another option up front alongside Jermain Defoe.

Adebayor, who hit 18 goals on loan at White Hart Lane last term, tweeted: "I'm back! Tottenham here I come! I am hungry for goals... Get ready."

He later added: "It may have taken longer than expected but I am delighted to be back.

"I really enjoyed my time here last season and I am hoping we can achieve great things together again."

Everton have announced the signing of Belgium international Kevin Mirallas from Olympiakos on a four-year deal.

Mirallas, 24, scored 20 goals in 25 games for the Greek side last season, with the Toffees winning the race for his signature after agreeing a fee - believed to be around £6 million - on Friday evening.

The forward agreed personal terms and signed a medical on Saturday, with the deal formally announced on Sunday morning.

"I am very happy because Everton is a big club and for me it's a very good opportunity," Mirallas said. "I've known Everton have been following me for a while and after talking with the manager I decided coming to Everton was the best opportunity for me.

"I know this is a great club with great supporters and a club that has the ability win a lot of games in the Premier League. That's why I came."

Manager David Moyes is happy to have bolstered his squad on the eve of the club's new campaign, especially having seen the likes of Tim Cahill, James McFadden and Joao Silva all depart this summer.

"We're really pleased to get Kevin," Moyes said. "He'll hopefully add a bit of quality to the squad, give us some more options and we need him.

"We've lost one of two players so we're delighted to get Kevin in."

Mirallas - who will wear the No. 11 at Goodison Park - will not be available to make his debut against Manchester United on Monday, however, having only completed his move after the Premier League's 12pm Friday deadline for player registrations.

The forward, who can play on either wing or through the middle, has previously had spells at Standard Liege, St Etienne and Lille.

Robin van Persie says he listened to the "little boy inside me" when deciding whether to make the switch from Arsenal to United.

The Dutch striker, who enjoyed eight successful years with the Gunners, completed his switch to Old Trafford on Friday.

After taking part in his first training session at Carrington, he revealed hes relishing a new challenge for silverware with the Reds, for whom he'll wear shirt no.20.

The 29-year-old told a press conference on Friday: "I'm proud to be here and looking forward to achieving big things with Manchester United.

"Arsenal are a big club but for me it's a big challenge to get to know players here.

"I had a good session this morning I noticed every single person was really helpful. It's a friendly club like I'm used to, so it's not a big difference. The language is the same."

He continued: "Everyone knows by now that I'm a lover of football. I'm quite principled in that respect. It's always difficult to find a perfect match but I do feel this is the perfect match for me.

"Manchester United breathe football. If you look at all players at the club, the stadium and the manager, my choice was made based on those things. When I have to make hard decisions, I always listen to little boy inside me and what he wants. That little boy was screaming for United."

Arsenal fans are certain to be disappointed to see van Persie leave, but the 2011/12 Premier League top scorer was keen to ensure he left the Emiratesarticle-2189744-1496741F000005DC-970_634x807.jpg
