Assassin aka Agent Sasco (left) and I-Octane

Assassin also known as Agent Sasco and I-Octane have been chosen to lead Digicel's marketing campaign for Reggae Sumfest 2010. The announcement was made during the official launch of the Reggae Sumfest 2010, came a week after the telecommunications company reported that they have teamed up with producer Demarco to produce the vibrant and energetic rhythm, titled, "Next Generation".

"Something like this is a testament to my character as an artiste and something that I am very proud of," said Assassin. I-Octane too was happy to be chosen. "Being one of the faces of Digicel's marketing campaign for Sumfest definitely adds a new dimension to my career and it's truly an honour to be a part of the Digicel family in such a big way". According to Shelly-Ann Curran, senior sponsorship manager at Digicel, "Our line up of activities this year has led us to forge some fantastic partnerships that will ensure that our customers continue to benefit from superior value and amazing offers. We have also joined with Motorola, again to continue wowing our customers with the latest innovation in mobile technology and we will be announcing these details very soon. It's going to be a great summer for Digicel and our customers and we're looking forward to it." she said.

THE police will on Monday begin excavating several suspected burial sites in Tivoli Gardens that were detected by two sniffer dogs brought in from the United States on Wednesday.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Les Green declined to say how many sites were detected, but said the information would be made public as soon as the excavations began.

tg-search-2_w370.jpg

"Once we start digging and we confirm that bodies are indeed at these locations, then I can say. I don't want to set off any alarms until that process has started," Green told the Observer yesterday.

The dogs are a part of a search team brought to the island to assist investigators in their search following the discovery of a corpse in a shallow grave in a section of the community called 'Rasta City' three weeks ago.

That body was found kneeling with its hands and feet bound and mouth gagged. It had several gunshot wounds.

Police said they found two 9mm shell casings, and a round of ammunition used in a AK 47 assault rifle, at that scene.

They suspect more bodies could be buried in the area, and they have extended their search in that section of the community.

The discovery of the shallow grave followed the revelation by the security forces that they found buildings in the community which were believed to be used as torture chambers, and water tunnels, which they suspect may have been used as escape routes by criminals during the joint police/military incursion in the community a month ago.

The security forces stormed the community on May 24 after gunmen aligned with former community leader Christopher 'Dudus' Coke tried to prevent his arrest to face drug and gun-running charges in the United States.

The thugs, who had blocked the entrances to the West Kingston community, traded bullets with the cops. More than 70 civilians as well as a soldier were killed in the gunfights. Two policemen were also killed by thugs as violence broke out in other parts of the city, causing commercial and other activities to come to a standstill for two whole days.

Coke, who managed to sneak out of Tivoli Gardens during the incursion, was arrested on Tuesday and extradited to the United States on Thursday. The former area leader waived his right to an extradition trial in Jamaica.

The security forces are, however, still maintaining a heavy presence in his former stronghold.

UNITED NATIONS, CMC The importance of the Caribbean as a conduit for cocaine imported into the United States has greatly diminished over the past 15 years, according to a new report issued by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UN*o*dc).

The report, released here on Friday, said during the early days of the trade, traffickers preferred the Caribbean corridor and it was used preferentially from the late 1970s.

In the 1980s, most of the cocaine entering the United States came through the Caribbean into the southern part of the
state of Florida. But interdiction successes, tied to the use of radars, caused the traffickers to reassess their routes.

As a growing share of cocaine transited the southwest border of the United States, Mexican groups wrested control from their Colombian suppliers, further directing the flow through
Central America and Mexico.

But UN*o*dc said that the decline has not necessarily led to increased stability or lowered violence in the transit countries.

On the contrary, it seems that once the drug is introduced, instability in the market can drive violence, UN*o*dc said in its global report, noting that Jamaica provides a case where violence has become the norm despite the efforts to eradicate the trade.

It said that estimates of the cocaine flow through
Jamaica dropped from 11 per cent of the US supply in 200013 to two per cent in 2005, and falling to one per cent two years later.

This is reflected in declining seizures in Jamaica and declining arrests and convictions of Jamaican drug traffickers in the United States. It is also negatively reflected in the murder rate, which rose from 34 per 100,000 in 2000 to 59 per 100,000 in 2008.

There are historical reasons for this paradoxical effect. The importance of Jamaica as a transit country in the cocaine trade really rose after the violent 1980 elections in that country. A large number of important crime figures -including some so-called 'area dons' and their enforcers- left Jamaica for New York, where they became key suppliers in the crack cocaine boom.

The report said that this period of growing criminal opportunities represented a time of relative calm in Jamaica.

When this market died out and cocaine flows began to shift westward, these men returned to Jamaica to find a much less well organized crime scene, where 'neighbourhood dons' had turned to more direct means of income generation: violent acquisitive crime, including extortion and robbery.

The Jamaican cocaine trade suffered another blow when cooperative efforts between Jamaican law enforcement and the United Kingdom sharply reduced the air courier traffic to Europe around 2002.

It said that street-level competition for diminishing returns has fuelled growing homicide rates; the highest in the Caribbean and among the highest in the world.

UN*o*dc said a similar, but more compressed, effect could also have occurred in the Dominican Republic where the share of the US cocaine supply that transited Hispaniola dropped from eight per cent in 2000 to two per cent in 2004, before rising again to four per cent 2005 and nine per cent in 2007.

Around this time, the murder rate in the Dominican Republic doubled, from 13 per 100,000 in 2001 to 26 per 100,000 in 2005. It has remained at high levels, and the drug trade in the Dominican Republic is still volatile.

Dominican traffickers have grown in importance in Europe since about 2005, and today are second only to the Colombians among foreign cocaine traffickers arrested in Spain, the primary point of entry, the report added.

It said that another shift that may have affected local stability is the reduction in air courier traffic though the Netherlands Antilles.

THE Executive Board of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Wednesday concluded the first review of Jamaica's economic performance under the Stand-By Arrangement (SBA) and said that the island appeared set to meet targets and benchmarks for the end of this month.

"Jamaica has performed very well under the programme," the IMF said in a news release posted on its website. "All quantitative performance targets and structural benchmarks for end-March were met and prospects for meeting the end-June targets and benchmarks appear favourable."

Naoyuki-Shinohara_w370.jpg

The Washington DC-based organisation said that completion of the review enables the immediate disbursement of an amount equivalent to about US$93.9 million, bringing total disbursements under the arrangement to about US$704.6 million.

The IMF approved a 27-month SBA in an amount equivalent to 300 per cent of quota (about US$1.21 billion) on February 4 this year. The pillars of the programme include:

* fiscal consolidation and institutional reform, including fiscal responsibility legislation and central treasury management;

* public debt restructuring, which was completed as a prior action under the programme; and

* financial sector reform, including the improvement of consolidated supervision and the regulation of non-banks.

Following the Executive Board discussion on Jamaica, Naoyuki Shinohara, deputy managing director and acting chair, said: "Overall macroeconomic performance under the programme has been encouraging. All end-March quantitative targets and structural benchmarks were met. Since the approval of the SBA and completion of the debt exchange, financial market conditions have improved substantially: market interest rates have fallen to levels not seen since the 1980s and the foreign exchange market has stabilised, with the exchange rate appreciating in recent months."

Shinohara also said that financial institutions in Jamaica have been able to absorb losses from the Debt Exchange and there have been no requests for access to the Financial System Support Fund, which has played an important role in fostering confidence and supporting financial system stability.

"Notwithstanding an overall weak economic context, the authorities preserved programme targets on the basis of strengthened tax administration and expenditure restraint," Shinohara said.

However, he added that "despite these early successes, growth and employment are expected to remain weak this year and vigilance is needed as risks are high".

He said that advancing planned fiscal structural reforms is necessary to improve debt dynamics and strengthen the basis for growth. "This involves amendments to strengthen the fiscal responsibility framework, strengthening tax administration, and introducing a central treasury management system," he said.

Shinohara argued that reforming the system of tax incentives will also help reduce economic distortions and described the sale of Air Jamaica as "an important milestone".

"It will now be necessary to focus on moving the public sector reform programme forward," Shinohara said, and added: "In the financial sector, efforts to strengthen the supervisory and regulatory framework are advancing in line with programme expectations. This includes work to enhance capital and margin rules for securities dealers and the introduction of risk-weight rules for foreign-currency denominated government securities."

JOHANNESBURG (AP) Extra security will be enforced at the England vs Germany round of 16 encounter at the World Cup, with South Africa police describing it as a "high priority" match.

England and Germany will meet Sunday at the Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein, which has a relatively small capacity of 40,911.

"Those are high-priority teams for us," South Africa Police Service spokeswoman Brigadier Sally de Beer told The Associated Press yesterday.

"As with the (England)-USA game where we beefed up security... We will deploy additional forces and resources."

Police had no information about any specific threats to the match, de Beer said, nor did they have particular concerns about the match featuring two of European football's traditional rivals,

Earlier this month, South African police deported at least one hooligan from Britain and more than 20 from Argentina, while police in England arrested five convicted hooligans in Birmingham accused of violating domestic "banning orders" by not handing in their passports ahead of the World Cup.

The winner of the England-Germany match will play the winner of the match between Argentina and Mexico in the quarterfinals.

Local organisers said at the halfway point of the tournament, the World Cup had been incident free despite concern over security checks and unsold tickets.

"We are happy with the way the tournament has gone thus far. We have delivered 50 per cent of the games, and everything has gone smoothly," organising committee spokesman Rich Mkhondo said. "Now we are coming to the crucial stages when teams have to go home. For us, this is a wonderful success story."

Mkhondo said close attention would be paid to security at all eight of the second-round matches, and they were prepared for it.

"The World Cup tends to bring such games ahead of time -- this is just one we're looking forward to," going well. We have deployed officers with supervisory capacity. We've been receiving positive feedback as well," Naidoo said. "We are no longer getting complaints."

NEW YORK (AP) A year after Michael Jackson's death caused a worldwide outpouring of shock, tears and tributes, the anniversary of his passing was being marked Friday on a quieter scale, as fans remembered their fallen King of Pop with vigils, prayer and, of course, music.

The electric, enigmatic and troubled icon died on June 25, 2009, at age 50 as he was preparing for a series of comeback concerts in London. Dr Conrad Murray is charged with involuntary manslaughter in Jackson's death for administering the powerful anesthetic propofol to Jackson to help the pop star sleep.

jacko-26_w370.jpg

jacko-fans_w370.jpg

Some radio stations woke up listeners to Jackson's music and on US television, all the major networks devoted a portion of their morning news programmes to Jackson. Events were held across the globe, from Tokyo to New York. At Jackson's final resting place at Forest Lawn in Glendale, California, hundreds of fans, some weeping, filed past barricades Friday morning to get close to the mausoleum where Jackson is interred. Yugi Aoki, 33, of Tokyo, came with 13 other Japanese fans of the pop star. They were all wearing sparkling gloves and fedora hats, one of Jackson's signature looks.

Across the country in New York, pictures of Jackson hung on a wall outside Harlem's Apollo Theater, where Jackson and his brothers won the amateur night competition in the late 1960s. A sidewalk plaque honoured the singer alongside such other legends as James Brown and Smokey Robinson. Since the Apollo helped launch the Jackson 5, it has had a strong connection to the late pop star. After Jackson's death, it became the de facto gathering place for New York fans. It was an emotional though more low-key scene on Friday morning, as Jackson's music blared from boomboxes and passing cars.

In Gary, Indiana, Jackson's hometown, there was to be a tribute at the family home; city officials said they expected Jackson's mother, Katherine Jackson, and his niece, Genevieve Jackson, to show up, along with thousands of others. Katherine Jackson also lent her support to a 'Forever Michael' fan event in Beverly Hills, California, on Saturday.

In Japan, hundreds of fans met at Tokyo Tower to honour Jackson with a candlelight vigil, a gospel concert and more. Some got a chance to see a collection of his possessions, including costumes from his tours and even a 1967 Rolls-Royce Phantom that he used to drive around Los Angeles. About 50 guests paid $1,100 each to sleep overnight at the Tokyo landmark, where they had catered food, watched a gospel choir, looked at Jackson memorabilia and danced to Michael Jackson's music before observing a period of silence as the sun rose.

But not every memorial for Jackson was to be somber. In France, weekend celebration plans included a concert and tribute show, and other places across the globe, including the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, planned parties for the man who embodied dance music.

"They want to celebrate his life and music," DJ Jon Quick said of the expected partygoers at club Taj on Friday, where he would play Jackson tunes.

On Twitter, "RIPMJ" was one of the most popular topics. Mariah Carey said she was marking the day by watching the video to You Are Not Alone.

"Love and prayers to MJ 'King of Pop,"' Carey tweeted. "You will be remembered forever. We miss you."

NELSPRUIT, South Africa (AFP) Skipper Didier Drogba was in a realistic mood after Ivory Coast came up short in their improbable goal pursuit against North Korea in their bid for a last 16 spot at the World Cup here yesterday.

Setting out needing victory by nine goals to nudge Portugal from the knock-out round, Ivory Coast could only muster a 3-0 win over the already eliminated North Korea in their Group G match at the Mbombela Stadium.

For the second straight World Cup, the 'Elephants' of Ivory Coast bumped into another hot group and are on their way out again at the first-round stage.

Four years ago in Germany, it was Argentina, Netherlands and Serbia/ Montenegro and this time they were placed

in another 'Group of Death' along with Brazil and Portugal.

"We are disappointed, but not too disappointed in a group like this with teams like Brazil and Portugal," the Chelsea superstar striker said.

"We have a good team and good players but they are better than us really.

"Maybe we can be disappointed at not getting second spot this time, but overall we can't be too disappointed.

"If we were in a better group, we would have gone through. We are unlucky to be in tough groups at both our World Cups, but to even play at the World Cup twice in a row

is fantastic.

"To play Brazil and Portugal is like a dream for a country like ours. We were lucky to play against those nations."

The Ivorians drew 0-0 with Portugal in their opening game and lost 3-1 to Brazil.

Drogba said if his team had a bit more composure in front of goal they may have scored more goals against North Korea, but it would have been all academic.

"We played good and we had a lot of chances," he said. "If we were a little calmer and took the right decisions, we could have scored more.

"Our World Cup is over but we can be proud of what we did against Brazil and Portugal. It was difficult for us to go through, but at least the respective FIFA rankings was proved right today," the Chelsea frontman concluded.

Michael Ballack signs two-year deal with Bayer Leverkusen after Chelsea release

Michael Ballack has joined Bayer Leverkusen on a two-year contract after his contract expired at Premier League champions Chelsea.

michael_ballack2_1666362c.jpg

The 33 year-old, who is missing the World Cup through an injury picked up in the FA Cup final victory, was released by Chelsea at the end of last season.

The midfielder is returning to the Bundesliga and his old side, with whom he reached the Champions League final in 2002.

"With my transfer to Bayer Leverkusen a circle is complete. I had a beautiful and successful time here, on which I like to look back on a lot," Ballack said. "That was a factor in my decision.

"But above all the good sporting potential of this young and attractive team were persuasive. I am especially looking forward to the great fans, who naturally have been key in my decision to return to Bayer."

Ballack, who spent three years with Bayer before leaving for Bayern Munich in 2002 and then moving on to Chelsea in 2006, will reportedly earn around 12 million euros over a two-year stay at Bayer.

Steve McClaren's Wolfsburg were also believed to have been interested in him, but Ballack has opted for a return to his old club.

Bayer sporting director is delighted to have signed a player of Ballack's experience, and believes he will help the development of the club's crop of young players.

"With Michael Ballack our team is getting an enormous boost in quality," he said. "Especially our many young players will benefit from his abilities and his experience.

"We did everything to convince Michael. That his preference was for Bayer despite our limited financial possibilities in comparison to the competition, shows his emotional attachment to the club."

PARIS, France (AFP) Middle-aged swingers -- heterosexual couples who swap partners at sex parties -- have been identified as an "at-risk" group for chlamydia and gonorrhoea, says a Dutch study published on Thursday.

Researchers in South Limburg, a district of 630,000 people that includes Maastricht city, sounded the alarm after looking at statistics from three sexual disease clinics which have

been registering swingers as a patient category since 2007.

Of 8,971 consultations for chlamydia and gonorrhea in 2007 and 2008, almost one in eight were for swingers, whose average age was 43, the investigators found.

Swingers placed third after young heterosexuals and gays in the disease tally. Female swingers had higher infection rates than male swingers.

"Swingers, like other groups with risk behaviours, need to be identified and treated as a risk group in STI (sexually transmitted infection) prevention and care," according to the study, headed by Nicole Dukers-Muijrers of the South Limburg Public Medical Health Service.

Exact figures on the Netherlands' population of swingers are unclear but the number "is probably large", says the paper, published in the journal Sexually Transmitted Infections.

One popular website alone has 15,000 couples, it says.

story.drugbust.sbso.jpgAuthorities in southern California said the strong smell of marijuana helped them discover $45 million worth of drugs in the back of a tractor-trailer they had pulled over for a traffic violation.

Deputies stopped the truck Wednesday morning, then opened the trailer after finding problems with the paperwork for the load, the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Office said Friday.

An "overwhelming odor" led investigators to about 20 tons of narcotics stashed in pallets in the back of the truck, including about 38,000 pounds of marijuana, 2,700 pounds of cocaine and 67 pounds of methamphetamine, the sheriff's office said in a statement.

Sheriff Rod Hoops said Friday night the seizure was one of the largest in the county's history.

The truck's driver, Fernando Luevano, 32, was arrested and charged with possession, transportation and sale of narcotics, authorities said.

Discuss the holes in religion, the that makes no sense part about it.

OK first,

Look at the Medieval Church, it was full of scandals and extortion, it was a way to gain power, same in the age of exploration.
The church was mainly for power which was why it spread quickly, as the people with the power could brainwash the subjects into thinking it was real, and with the holders of power, could prevent many a cry for freedom from oppression.
In medieval Europe too, the king was "chosen by god". That was an excuse why kings could get away with things, and why for a time the Magna Carta was nullified because, two of the most powerful people of the time, King John and the Pope covered each others back so that power would stay in their hands.

The bible stories were passed down through the generations by mouth, and things are easily changed.

In Islam, Mohammad spoke to Allah on top of a mountain. Now, mushrooms and other hallucinogens grow on mountains, along with the possibility of hallucinations from brain injury. In addition to what is either made up or falsely seen, things change when told multiple times without a reference.
Now, we cast down Greek and Roman myths about how people and things are created, as it is MYTHOLOGY. But when it comes to CREATIONISM aren't they the same thing, as they have been proven wrong by science?

HOURS before his extradition to the United States, former Tivoli Gardens don Christopher Dudus Coke asked Jamaicans to pray for him.

In a two-page typewritten statement issued through his lawyer Tom Tavares Finson, Coke said he was leaving with a heavy heart, but was convinced he would be vindicated.

Pray for me and God bless Jamaica, Coke said. I leave Jamaica and my family, in particular Patsy [mother Pauline Patsy Halliburton], with a heavy heart, but fully confident that in due course I will be vindicated and returned to them.

He said he had taken the decision to waive his rights to an extradition trial on my own free will and have done so even though Im of the belief that my case would have been successfully argued in the court of Jamaica.

I take this decision for I now believe it to be in the best interest of my family, the community of West Kingston and in particular the people of Tivoli and above all Jamaica, he said.

Coke will be taken to the United States today, where he faces drugs and gun-running charges.

Romain in performance

Romain Virgo provided the perfect end to the launch of his self-titled album with an entertaining performance at the Knutsford Court Hotel, New Kingston, on Tuesday night.

With all the formalities aside, former Rising Stars winner Cameal Davis sang a spirited intro for Virgo. As he started Who Feels It Knows It, there was an almost immediate 'pull up' because of the massive response to the song.

And when he did Caan Sleep, everyone sang along. Virgo made one woman's night when he left the stage to serenade her with Love Doctor.

Soon after, Queen Ifrica joined him on-stage, changing sections of her song Lioness On The Rise to make it appropriate for him. Later, Davis sang I'm Doing Good with him.

As the night progressed, he did songs like I Wanna Go Home that he said was for the women, Dark Skin Girl and Be Careful. He also deejayed some of Busy Signal's fast-paced lyrics on Shane Brown's 'Stagalag' rhythm, impressing the audience.

high praise

Throughout the night, the artiste received high praises for his work.

Headline Entertainment's Carlette DeLeon referred to him as an artiste for today and tomorrow. She added: "I can attest to the fact that he is humble. He is genuine and he is sweet."

Cordel Green, executive director of the Broadcasting Commission, was also pleased with Virgo's work. "The lyrics on this album are of a man wise beyond these 20 years. Your lyrics cut across class, creed and age," he said.

Green also said he was impressed with his songs, which he referred to as classics. And while many of his peers placed emphasis on the 'bling', he said Virgo was more interested in singing about social issues.

Tony Rebel also applauded Virgo for being able to pull a good crowd to his event on a day when Christopher 'Dudus' Coke had been captured, World Cup was in progress and when the police wanted the Reverend Al Miller to turn himself in.

Nonetheless, he said: "It is our duty to nourish and cherish talents like these so that our industry can last another 50 years."

Virgo was also happy. "It's an overwhelming feeling to be standing here launching my first album," he said before going on to thank all the persons who had been part of the album-making process and those who have supported him throughout his career.

On hand for the launch were other artistes like Sophia Brown, D Major, Baby Tash, Christopher Martin, Nesbeth, Wasp, Wadda *lo** and others.

Christopher "Dudus" Coke arrives at Westchester Airport near New York 24.6.10 Mr Coke was flown to New York on Thursday

Suspected Jamaican drug lord Christopher "Dudus" Coke has pleaded not guilty to US charges of drug and gun-trafficking.

Mr Coke, 41, entered the plea in a New York court after being extradited from Jamaica on Thursday.

Mr Coke waived his rights to challenge the extradition. If convicted, he faces life in prison.

Attempts to capture him in May led to clashes in which scores of people died. He was finally detained on Tuesday.

'Community leader'

Mr Coke entered the plea at Manhattan federal court on Friday.

"As I understand, you are pleading not guilty at this time. That is what your lawyer said," Judge Robert Patterson was quoted as saying by the AFP news agency.

Mr Coke's lawyer Russel Newfeld replied: "Yes, that is right."

The judge then ordered that Mr Coke be remanded in custody, before he set a new hearing for 28 June to decide whether he should be jailed indefinitely pending trial, the AFP news agency reports.

On Thursday, Mr Coke made a brief appearance before a Jamaican judge in Kingston to announce that he was waiving his rights to challenge the extradition. He was later flown to the US.

Mr Coke said he believed he could win the case in the Jamaican courts.

But he added that he would go to the US to stand trial for the sake of his family, the people of Tivoli in west Kingston and Jamaica.

The US justice department says Mr Coke is one of the world's most dangerous drug lords, but his supporters say he is a community leader.

Tivoli Gardens clashes

Mr Coke is accused of being the leader of the notorious Shower Posse, which US prosecutors say operates an international drug and gun smuggling network.

They say that Mr Coke conspired to distribute cocaine and marijuana throughout the eastern United States for more than 15 years.

The Shower Posse is also blamed for numerous murders.

The pursuit of Mr Coke has shed light on the links between politicians and gang leaders in Jamaica.

Prime Minister Bruce Golding is said to have relied on Mr Coke to turn out the vote at election time in the Tivoli Gardens district he represents in parliament, and which the Shower Posse controls.

When Mr Coke was first indicted in the US last August, Mr Golding initially fought the extradition, arguing that it was based on flawed evidence.

But after months of delays and amid growing local and international criticism, he agreed to extradite the suspect and signed an arrest warrant in May.

However, gunmen loyal to Mr Coke in Tivoli Gardens barricaded the streets and mounted attacks against the police.

A state of emergency was declared and more than 70 people were killed in four days of gun battles, during which Mr Coke was able to escape. The security forces have since been accused of using excessive force.

On Sunday VH1 aired the REUNION SHOW for their series Basketball Wives. NBA Baller Matt Barnes' fiance Gloria did not attend the reunion - upon Matt's advice.
Then after the show was over, Matt began leaving very NASTY TWEETS about the other women on the show - including Shaq's wife Shaunie.

In the tweets, Matt described the women as "hoes" "b*thces" and more.

We understand how mad he is, but we just CAN NOT condone a man talking about women like that - especially women who have CHILDREN old enough to read that mess on the internet!!!

In the 1980s, most of the cocaine entering the United States came through the Caribbean into the southern part of the state of Florida. But interdiction successes, tied to the use of radars, caused the traffickers to reassess their routes.

As a growing share of cocaine transited the southwest border of the United States, Mexican groups wrested control from their Colombian suppliers, further directing the flow through Central America and Mexico.

It said that estimates of the cocaine flow through Jamaica dropped from 11 per cent of the US supply in 200013 to two per cent in 2005, and falling to one per cent two years later.

Authorities say Jamaican gang leader Christopher 'Dudus' Coke has arrived in ...

The Reverend Al Miller has been arrested and charged with perverting the course of justice and harbouring a fugitive.

Miller was questioned extensively today and yesterday at the Organised Crime Investigation Division (OCID), after he turned in himself Wednesday.

The police had asked Miller to turn himself in on Tuesday, hours after Coke was taken away from his car during a dragnet along Mandela Highway.

A police statement released shortly after Coke's arrest described Miller as "a major person of interest in a matter currently being investigated".

Miller explained that he was taking Coke to the United States Embassy in Liguanea, St Andrew, where the accused drug kingpin wanted to turn himself in.

Coke was indicted on drug and gun charges in the United States last year.

Police Commissioner Owen Ellington hinted on Tuesday that Miller could be in hot water for trying to circumvent local authorities.

Ellington said his office was also investigating why Miller was not detained at the scene.

One of the common threads running through all of the world's great religions is the concept of forgiveness. No man is beyond redemption. Not even Mr Christopher 'Dudus' Coke.

The former Tivoli Gardens 'don' can still redeem himself even at this eleventh hour. He might have decided to waive his right to an extradition hearing, but hard as it seems, he does not have to leave Jamaica's shores without the forgiveness of his compatriots.

At his extradition hearing today, Mr Coke can choose to make a statement in which he can call names of any prominent Jamaicans who might have aided and abetted him in his rise from a modest Tivoli don to an internationally designated, if alleged drug lord.

We can safely assume that no one can rise to such dizzying heights in the crime world without the assistance, whether willingly or for reward, of many persons.

Such people would have had to participate in the severe corruption of public and private others, likely resulting in the untimely demise of persons who were standing in their way.

It is for that reason that there is great concern that Mr Coke be kept safe and sound and very much alive. There is precedence in the death of his father, the infamous Lester Lloyd 'Jim Brown' Coke before him. He died in a mysterious fire at the maximum security General Penitentiary, while awaiting extradition to the United States.

The nation is hoping 'Dudus' Coke will live to spill the beans and, in doing so, reveal the identities of the persons who are accessories to his illegal deeds.

The good that can come of this is perhaps unimaginable. We would, at last, be able to remove the wool thrown over our national eyes by the crooks who sit in high places.

We would be, at last, in a position to begin the process of lancing the boil and perhaps forcing the cancer of corruption into remission.

In short, Mr Coke would have given his country a chance to start again. He would have demonstrated that the good seen in him even now by his many supporters in Tivoli Gardens, is not limited to that enclave but can be extended to his country.

Thinking Jamaicans know that Mr Coke was not born a don. He came as only the most recent in a long line of hardmen -- including, of course, his father -- who enforced a kind of jungle justice, previously for politicians but latterly in their own right, based on the extent of their ill-gotten gains.

There are 'business partners', lovers, henchmen, friends and a host of others who would have benefited from the filthy lucre amassed by Mr Coke. Many of them must now be cowering in fear that their names might be called.

Our suggestion to Mr Coke is that he must not go down alone. He must take as many guilty people as he can.

If he does, perhaps then, his nation can forgive him... And he might find peace within himself.

We could not believe that the big don had a pink wig in his car! Pink! We were in shock, a police source told Chat! yesterday, between bouts of uncontrollable laughter.

We still in shock. Maybe that is why he was able to stay in hiding for so long, because people looking for a man but he was really a woman!

Police attached to the Spanish Town Police Station, along with personnel from the police communications team, have confirmed that a pink wig was among items found in the vehicle in which Christopher Dudus Coke and Reverend Al Miller were travelling when they were stopped by members of the security forces on the Mandela Highway yesterday.

However, they were unable to say who wore the wig. Other items found in the vehicle in which the men were travelling were a pair of female glasses and a cap.

Police Commissioner Owen Ellington, told members of the media at a press briefing held at the Jamaica Defence Force headquarters at Up Park Camp on May 28, that some of the male corpses in Tivoli Gardens weeks ago, were dressed in female attire, indicating that members of the West Kingston militia which engaged the security forces in battle disguised themselves as women.

Police use tear gas and water cannons to disperse Chile fans celebrating their World Cup win on the streets of Santiago as violence erupts.

Police detain 81 rowdy fans in Chile

SANTIAGO - Police used tear gas and water cannons to subdue rowdy Chile fans and arrested 81 people in the capital Santiago on Wednesday after the country's first World Cup win in nearly 50 years, officials said.

Police said they detained the supporters mainly for public disorder in downtown Santiago, where fans massed in red national jerseys blowing trumpets and waving flags as they watched Chile beat Honduras 1-0 in their World Cup opener in South Africa.

"There were a couple of robberies, some arrested for causing damage, but most were for disorder," a police spokeswoman told Reuters.

Soccer is the most popular sport in Chile and major fixtures can sometimes spark street brawls.

Chile's victory came 48 years to the day after they last won a World Cup match -- a 1-0 win in a third-place playoff against Yugoslavia on home soil in 1962.

Here's what i think is happening

we are so exposed to the truth now more than ever b4 that it keeps our minds from wandering into religion....take for instance even sunday's in jamaica....the traidtion was for businesses to be closed and everyone gone to church and a day for gospel music..but sundays are gradually becoming like the rest of the week

do u think this modern generation ppl from young up to 30 is losing interest in religion or "seeing the light" so to speak?.....whats ur opinion on this...is it good for the society

talk to mi
People suspect that this quote means that "Everyone is equal" and thus should be treated equally, they are wrong.

People seem to ignore the word "Created" in the quote, making their mind process this quote instead: "All men are equal".

If we are all CREATED equal, that does not mean that we will be treated as equal throughout our entire lives, it only means that we are equal at the moment of creation and ONLY at that specific moment.

You might argue that "If we are all CREATED equal, why are some babies born with birth defects?"

Well, the creation process goes back nine months since you were born, to the very moment that the sperm and egg join. The quote means that we are all created equally only at the EXACT moment of our own creation, which is the pleasurable time that our parents enjoy during sexual intercourse. We are all created equal, because each of us was created starting with the process of sex.
I have seen a few threads and replies that talk about the subconscious mind and hypnosis. The subconscious mind is (as defined by Sigmund Freud) a repository for socially unacceptable ideas, wishes or desires, traumatic memories, and painful emotions put out of mind by the mechanism of psychological repression. However, the contents do not necessarily have to be solely negative.

The subconscious mind remembers EVERYTHING that you do, see, touch, taste, feel, desire, want, etc. every day of your life. If you could access your subconscious mind and turn it into long term memory, you would probably end up being deranged, psychopathic, or you would just have massive headaches all of the time because of all of the knowledge that you were retaining. Luckily that is not the case, but the subconscious mind does come out eventually, in a wonderful, magical place called your dreams.

I have been trying to study dreaming for a while now (hince why I have been talking about psychology lately) and I've been wanting to understand why we dream the things that we dream. First off let me explain what dreaming is.

Dreaming is something that you do when you go to sleep. The "Dream Sleep" or "Deep Sleep" is called "Rapid Eye Movement" sleep or REM (pronounced like Rim) sleep. It is called Rapid Eye Movement sleep because your eyes go back and forth rapidly when you enter this sleep. This form of sleep is NEEDED to survive.

There has been some discussion as to what dreams actually are, but the most universal explanation (amongst modern scientists) is that its basically your subconscious mind displaying random images which are then interpreted by your short term memory to display a scene that makes "sense" (I put that in quotations because dreams don't always make sense, but they make a definite scene).

Through some of my studies I have concluded that the longest, most memorable, dreams occur when the subject is sleep deprived (or has stayed awake for a long period of time) and has been asleep for longer than the suggested 8 hours.

Hypnosis is something that has been debated amongst psychologists, psychiatrists, etc. but basically what the "hypnotist" is doing is making the subject go into a deep sleep. The subjects that are normally chosen are those that are outgoing people. My proof? When a hypnotist is at a show he/she normally asks people to come up. The most outgoing people are the ones that are going to come up to the stage, because the shy people are just going to sit in their seats. So once the hypnotist has these outgoing people, they go into this deep sleep in which the hypnotist can suggest them to do anything stupid and they will do it (because they're outgoing people..)

The record industry just scored its own golden goal. Can a full Recovery be far behind?

Offering conclusive proof that Marshall still matters, Eminems aptly named Recovery will score the years highest sales debut. Look for a total of between 590-615k for the Shady/Aftermath/Interscope album, easily beating Sades 503k back in February. It could also beat his last album, Relapse, which sold 608k in its first week in May 09.

Thats based on totals from those music retailers who havent painted their faces red, white and blue and shown up in South Africa with vuvuzelas in tow for the World Cup.

In addition, Ems duet with Rihanna, Love the Way You Lie, has currently supplanted Katy Perrys California Gurls as the top iTunes download.

With this weeks sales champ, Drakes Thank Me Later album, looking like #2 in its second week, the next biggest debut will be Hollywoods Miley Cyrus album, clocking in at 115-125k, as the Disney teen star looks to shed her wholesome Hannah Montana image.

FORMER Tivoli Gardens don Christopher 'Dudus' Coke was flown out of the country at 2:05 this afternoon.

Coke left Up Park Camp at 1:33 pm in a Jamaica Defence Force helicopter which then transferred him to an aircraft at the Norman Manley International Airport.

Coke is on his way to the United States where he faces drug and gun-running charges.

Earlier today he waived his right to an extradition trial in Jamaica.

Coke had been on the run since May 24. He was captured in the company of the Reverend Al Miller on Tuesday. Miller said he was accompanying Coke to the US embassy in Liguanea, where the fugitive wanted to turn himself in to US authoritie

Christopher 'Dudus' Coke waived his right to have an extradition trial in Jamaica this morning. He released a statement through his lawyer George Soutar at the hearing. Below is the full text of his statement:

I have, today, instructed my Attorneys that I intend to waive my right to an extradition hearing in Jamaica and to proceed directly to the United States under the terms of the Extradition Laws and treaty between Jamaica and the United States of America.

I have taken this decision of my own free will and have done so even though I am of the belief that my case would have been successfully argued in the Courts of Jamaica.

I take this decision for I now believe it to be in the interest of my family, the community of Western Kingston and in particular the people of Tivoli Gardens and above all Jamaica.

Everyone, the whole country, has been adversely affected by the process that has surrounded my extradition and I hope that my action today will go some way towards healing all who have suffered and will be of benefit to the community of Tivoli Gardens.

Above all I am deeply upset and saddened by the unnecessary loss of lives which could have been avoided, be it of members of the Security Forces and over eighty (80) residents of Tivoli or any other innocent Jamaicans that has occurred during this time.

I leave Jamaica and my family in particular Patsy with a heavy heart but fully confident that in due course I will be vindicated and returned to them.

Pray for me and God bless Jamaica.

rape_axe_condom_2.jpg

South African Dr. Sonnet Ehlers was on call one night four decades ago when a devastated rape victim walked in. Her eyes were lifeless; she was like a breathing corpse. She looked at me and said, If only had teeth down there, recalled Ehlers, who was a 20-year-old medical researcher at the time. I promised her Id do something to help people like her one day.

Forty years later, Rape-aXe was born.

Ehlers is distributing the female condoms in the various South African cities where the World Cup soccer games are taking place.

The woman inserts the latex condom like a tampon. Jagged rows of teeth-like hooks line its inside and attach on a mans penis during penetration, Ehlers said.

Once it lodges, only a doctor can remove it a procedure Ehlers hopes will be done with authorities on standby to make an arrest.

It hurts, he cannot pee and walk when its on, she said. If he tries to remove it, it will clasp even tighter however, it doesnt break the skin, and theres no danger of fluid exposure.

Ehlers said she sold her house and car to launch the project, and she planned to distribute 30,000 free devices under supervision during the World Cup period.

I consulted engineers, gynecologists and psychologists to help in the design and make sure it was safe, she said.

After the trial period, theyll be available for about $2 a piece. She hopes the women will report back to her.

It hurts, he cannot pee and walk when its on. If he tries to remove it, it will clasp even tighter

Dr Sonnet Ehlers

The ideal situation would be for a woman to wear this when shes going out on some kind of blind date or to an area shes not comfortable with, she said.

The mother of two daughters said she visited prisons and talked to convicted rapists to find out whether such a device would have made them rethink their actions.

Some said it would have, Ehlers said.

Critics say the female condom is not a long-term solution and makes women vulnerable to more violence from men trapped by the device.

Its also a form of enslavement, said Victoria Kajja, a fellow for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the east African country of Uganda. The fears surrounding the victim, the act of wearing the condom in anticipation of being assaulted all represent enslavement that no woman should be subjected to.

Kajja said the device constantly reminds women of their vulnerability.

It not only presents the victim with a false sense of security, but psychological trauma, she added. It also does not help with the psychological problems that manifest after assaults.

However, its one advantage is it allows justice to be served, she said.

Various rights organizations that work in South Africa declined to comment, including Human Rights Watch and Care International.

South Africa has one of the highest rape rates in the world, Human Rights Watch says on its website. A 2009 report by the nations Medical Research Council found that 28 percent of men surveyed had raped a woman or girl, with one in 20 saying they had raped in the past year, according to Human Rights Watch.

In most African countries, rape convictions are not common. Affected women dont get immediate access to medical care, and DNA tests to provide evidence are unaffordable.

Women and girls who experience these violations are denied justice, factors that contribute to the normalization of rape and violence in South African society, Human Rights Watch says.

Women take drastic measures to prevent rape in South Africa, Ehlers said, with some wearing extra tight biker shorts and others inserting razor blades in their private parts.

Critics have accused her of developing a medieval device to fight rape.

Yes, my device may be a medieval, but its for a medieval deed that has been around for decades, she said. I believe somethings got to be done and this will make some men rethink before they assault a woman.

After catching 883-pound marlin, crew disqualified over out-of-date license

updated 9:45 a.m. CT, Thurs., June 24, 2010

After a two-hour struggle with the gigantic fish off North Carolina's Outer Banks, Alexandria resident Peter Wann pulled with all his strength and the creature emerged from the ocean depths.

He and his four sport fishing teammates could finally see what they had been struggling against an 883-pound blue marlin spanning 137 inches.

"My eyes were wide," Wann said "Once it got up, everybody started freaking out, saying, 'Holy smokes!' Everybody was so excited."

But as the exhausted and elated teammates steamed back to shore certain that their catch would win the grand prize of nearly $1 million in the annual Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament they began checking to make sure the paperwork was in order. Wann's heart sank when he read the rule book. He thought the entire boat was licensed to compete. Turns out, all individuals had to have a valid state fishing license. Even Wann, the hired first mate.

His mind raced. He had a license at one time, hadn't he? Heart in his throat, he logged onto the state's Web site as soon as the boat was in wireless range.

Then big, bad news: His license had longexpired.

Eight days, two lie detector tests, and hours of scrutiny and agonizing deliberation later, tournament officials made their decision. They would not be awarding the prize to Wann and his teammates from the boat Citation.

It was clear that they probably would win, said Richard Crowe. The fish was 50 pounds heavier than any other first-prize winner in the tournament's 52-year-history. The closest runner-up this year was a 528-pounder.

As the Saturday awards banquet neared, tournament officials began administering lie detector tests to its top money winners. They say they typically give such tests to verify whether the contestants obeyed fishing times, locations and other regulations. The results for Holmes and Wann raised concern, Crowe said. Tournament officials began an inquiry.

Crowe said that the board is "very confident" in its decision to disqualify the Citation's big fish, citing a "substantial violation in tournament rules." The top prize money went instead to the Carnivore for its 528-pound catch; they otherwise would have won $217,000.

"For the integrity of the Tournament, Big Rock has no choice but to enforce the rules and disqualify the fish," the tournament board said in a statement when it announced its decision.

"Rules are the rules, and you can't break 'em a little bit," Crowe said.

Wann calls what happened an "immature mistake." He said he and Holmes should have acknowledged their concern to contest officials straight away. But he also said the owners and the captain who were paying him $500 a week before taxes never told him that he needed a valid fishing license to be part of the team.

The Smirnoff Girls added to the attraction at the press launch party for Smirnoff Dream Weekend, held at RedBones Blues Café, Argyle Road, last night. - Winston Sill

In the midst of the lavish white-themed launch of the Smirnoff Dream Weekend last night at the RedBones Blues Café in New Kingston, it was the announcement of the early bird ticket price for the dream band that got the crowd's attention.

At only $8,000, the early bird special, which was unveiled by singer Richie Loop through the de-robing of the Dream weekend promotional girls, grabbed the crowd's attention.

early bird special

Outside of the early bird special, regular armbands (which gives access to the seven parties), will be priced at $10,000, only a $500 increase from the previous year.

Taking over from Red Stripe as the title sponsor, Smirnoff this year, according to the promoters, are planning an even bigger dream than that of last year - the inauguration of the Dream Weekend in Negril.

The Gleaner can confirm that Christopher 'Dudus' Coke is now at the Norman Manley International Airport awaiting extradition to the US.

Coke earlier today waived his right to an extradition trial in Jamaica in an appearance at a specially arranged court session at a maximum-security facility at the Mobile Reserve Headquarters at Harman Barracks on South Camp Road.

Several helicopters in addition to a plane can be seen on a runway at the airport with a heavy contingent of security.

A group of individuals with 'Dudus' had disembarked from a plane about a half an hour ago and had gone into a building for what appears to be processing.

Coke will be taken to the United States today, where he faces drug and gun-running charges.

Dead is 23-year-old Dalmar White of a St Elizabeth address. Three other family members including White's 68-year-old grandmother suffered severe burns as a result of being struck. Two of the persons were later released.

With the state of emergency extended until July 22, party promoters are hoping that their events can still be kept without a hitch.

This week, Parliament gave approval for the limited state of emergency which has been in effect since May 23 in Kingston and St Andrew to continue until July 22, this time including neighbouring St Catherine. The state of emergency had originally been announced to last for one month, after the siege on west Kingston, unless revoked or extended by Parliament.

When THE STAR previously contacted Derrick 'Cowboy' Knight, head of the Half-Way Tree police, he explained that for his division no permission for events held after 6 p.m. would be granted until things were back to normal. Under the state of emergency, party promoters have been feeling the brunt of the burden as to whether their events can and will be kept.

The event, May Daze, did not fare well during the 'emergency period', having missed out on two weeks from their party series. When THE STAR spoke to May Daze promoter Dwayne Harris yesterday, he explained that the final May Daze, which they were hoping to have when the state of emergency was scheduled to end in June, has been postponed indefinitely.

no permits

Harris elaborated that they were in contact with police officials who explained that no permits would be granted for events beyond midnight. He said, "we just haffi call a spade a spade and promise patrons that we're planning something grand that May Daze supporters will enjoy. It's something Jamaica hasn't seen before."

The event, Music for Life, which was to be held this Saturday, has also been postponed indefinitely.

Good Times is back on for this Saturday at the Mas Camp after having been postponed from May 29 due to the unrest. One of the promoters, Jerome Hamilton, said: "from all indications, we will have the permits for the event, we have been in constant dialogue with the police and all looks well. I'm not sure if this will be the first outdoor event staged since the state of emergency, but people are looking forward to it."

According to Hamilton, they are imploring persons to come out earlier and assure them that extra security will be provided for their safety.

The promoters of Solstice, which will be held this Saturday at The Royal Jamaica Yatcht Club in Port Royal, are optimistic despite the extended state of emergency.

When THE STAR spoke to Solstice promoter Horace Britton, he explained that the state of emergency should not affect their keeping the event, but it might affect the turnout of patrons.

He said, "when we heard about the state of emergency being extended all the promoters were on the phone with each other discussing what can be done, and thus far nobody has postponed their event ... it might affect the turnout because people might be scared to come out during this time but you know is just a mindset."

Despite this, Britton promises patrons that Solstice will provide a fun night with top-class entertainment and decor.

Rum Punch, which will be held this Sunday at Temple Hall Estate, is still on, according to promoter Greg Henry.

According to Henry, the promoters are still in the process of getting their permits from the police but are hopeful that it will all work out. "We're definitely encouraging people to come 'cause it's still on, so they should come out and enjoy the vibe," he said.
