BERLIN Six German states have told retailers to stop selling Red Bull Cola energy drinks after a test found a trace amount of cocaine.
The bans started Friday after a sample test conducted by authorities in North Rhine-Westphalia state found 0.4 micrograms per liter in the drink.
Five other states also banned it from shops amid concerns over possible narcotics law violations.
Germany's Federal Institute for Risk Assessment said Monday that the cocaine level was too low to pose a health risk. It planned to produce a more detailed report Wednesday.
Red Bull said its cola is "harmless and marketable in both the U.S. and Europe." It said similar coca leaf extracts are used worldwide as flavoring, and a test it commissioned itself found no cocaine traces.
Male sexual aggression can be a frightening and potentially dangerous issue in society. Realistically, the causes are most likely many, and they are a combination of biology, social environment and outlying factors such as alcohol. For some men, sexual aggression occurs only occasionally. For others, it is a repeated experience. Some experts believe that the root of male sexual aggression lies in the media's portrayal of male sexuality; others claim that it is behavior inherited by parents and family members. This type of behavior can have detrimental affects on society for both men and women.
A 17-year-old boy who has repeatedly beaten his 18-year-old girlfriend and mother of his child was brought before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday. The accused, Donovan Campbell, told the court that he had beaten his girlfriend because "when me talk, she no wah hear". Campbell's response annoyed Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey, who then asked him what gave him the right to assault his girlfriend. The grandmother of the complainant was also present in court and explained that she had become exasperated with Campbell repeatedly hitting her granddaughter, and she wanted "the licking, the licking, Your Honour, to end". Campbell was remanded until July 30 when one of his parents or a guardian is expected to attend court when the matter will be heard again. Campbell was charged with assault occasioning bodily harm, assault of a police and resisting arrest. |
Mavado VS Tupac
In the world of music, regardless of the genre, everyday there are new songs and new beats are released. A staple question in any artist interview is: Where do you find your inspiration? Do muses really exist and whisper lyrics and melodies in the artists ear? This could be a hypothesis among others. Some artists write tunes related to the current events in society and some artists sing about their lifes struggles, pain, and joy. It is certain that there are artists who are considered The Trendsetters and who have an incredible amount of influence on the artists of our generation. For instance, James Brown, Michael Jackson, Bob Marley, Tupac & many more. The artists of the past set the example for the future.
Artists from all generations often pay tribute to the trendsetters by covering their biggest hits like Woman No Cry by Bob Marley and covered by the Fugees in 1996 or Human Nature by Michael Jackson and covered by Taurus Riley in 2008.
However, some artists who seem to be very influenced by the trendsetters do not really pay tribute to them. I am sure that it already happened to you to listen to a track and you would hear a sentence that reminds you of another track your heard before but you cannot remember who sings it nor what is the title. Nowadays there are artists who copy old songs lyrics, rearrange them and add their own flavor then take all the credit. After some researches, we found out that Mavado is one of this kind of artist.
Today, Mavado is quite popular with his unique voice and outstanding vocal style but unfortunately he is not that genuine. You all remember his single Even If They Kill Me released a few years ago. There is a particular sentence he says in the chorus, Mama even if they kill me, dont cry they could never take the G from me. Now lets turn back the hand of time to the early 90s when Tupac was still in the game, do you remember the Tupacs song entitled Life of a G? Well, Tupacs chorus goes like this, Tell mama dont cry, cause even if they kill me, they can never take the life of a real G. Dont these two tracks -Even If They Kill Me and Life of a G- lyrics look similar? You could say it is just a coincidence but, I wont stop here to prove you that I am not wrong.
Now lets compare the lyrics of Mavados song named Dying and Tupacs track named So Many Tears. I added a snippet of the verse of each track so that you could hear how similar the lyrics of these two tracks are. And for those who cannot play the samples, I wrote the lyrics.
Tupac So Many Tears
Mavado Dying
Like many other artists out there, it seems like Mavado borrowed some lyrics from someone else. Still, I want you to know that the intention of this article is not to belittle or discredit Mavado as an artist in any way, but to show you that Tupac served as a role model to Mavado, and I bet that Tupac is not the only artist who influences him. Biggie, being a huge icon of rap music too, has probably inspired Mavado as well.

Dancehall artiste Erup recently expressed that he wants to improve on his musical dominance locally after being missing in action for sometime, due to lengthy overseas touring and performances.
THE STAR caught up with the Harbour View-based deejay recently at Q45's studio during a recording session where he unleashed several new singles under his music productions Fully Govern Records, Big Pound and Izes Productions. For the past 16 months, or so, the deejay, born Kevin Saunders, has spent majority of his time on foreign soil.
Erup, known for the hit single Gal A Run Dem Head, said he took time from the local music industry to assess its direction, and is now fully convinced of what difference he can offer. "During the time, mi stay back fi see weh di music deh and a go. Mi tek the time out fi think on how to build some new hits." he said.
Still recovering from a broken leg sustained in a motor vehicle accident in January, the injury has not deterred Erup's determination and his ability. "Mi leg did inna cast wah day, mi just a gwan tek time but nutten nuh stop ... Mi Still perform and record." he said.

He is now focused on regaining his musical 'hype' of 2005-06 following the success of Gal A Run Dem Head and Click Mi Finger.
The hit maker is working on promoting a new single called Gone Away. "Di new single a fi di youth who can relate to it, and it's a concept, nuff people ago like it," he said.
Erup is content on releasing a second album and a mix tape by year end, and said that the public can look for young artistes coming out of Fully Govern Records.
Investigators from the St Andrew Central police are probing the circumstances under which a 35-year-old man died after trying to strike an 'oral' deal with an exotic dancer early Saturday morning.
The man has been identified as Richard Oneil of Eric Avenue, Kingston 20.
According to police reports, about 5:30 a.m., Oneil and the woman were on Ripon Road, St Andrew, conducting a business transaction which took a turn for the worse.
It was reported that a fracas developed between the two during which a machete and a knife were brought into play.
The police say information they have received suggests that Oniel used a machete to inflict a number of wounds to the woman's body. He was subsequently stabbed with a pair of scissors and was rushed to the Kingston Public Hospital where he died.
An investigator told THE STAR that one of the theories been probed suggests that Oneil was trying to solicit sex from the exotic dancer but the deal turned sour when Oniel requested a longer period of oral sex.
"We cannot say this is exactly how it went, but it is something we heard and are looking into. The two were conducting business, but apparently the money could not cover the service requested," the source from the Cross Roads police said.
When contacted, a security guard from a popular exotic club on Ripon Road made a similar claim.
The man, who asked for anonymity, said though he had not witnessed the incident, converstions he has heard suggests that the two were seen enjoying a drink with each other just minutes before having the altercation.
"Me neva see it still, but people weh did see it seh dem did all a have drink outside before dem kick off. People seh di man gi di girl a money and ask fi a ting but di girl neva deh pon dat fi dah money deh at least, and a so dem kick off," he explained.
The exotic dancer was subsequently taken into custody and may be charged, pending further investigations.
The 33-year-old cross-dresser was spotted by the animal's owner as she walked around the ancient edifice with a friend earlier this month.
Clad in a black dress, the perpetrator ran away when he realised his canine-canoodling antics had been clocked, but he was restrained by castle staff while the police were called.
After being escorted home, he reportedly made a 'full and frank confession' before being cautioned for outraging public decency.
'Other agencies were liaised with and he was handed over to them,' was the ominous statement to come from the police's spokesperson, while a representative for English Heritage commented: 'This was a very rare incident.'
News of the Cornish, err, puppy love follows this week's earlier revelation concerning Christie Brinkley the Great Dane.
She's the unfortunate creature who was on the receiving end of Armand M Pacher's passion.
The 64-year-old Florida resident is facing up to five years behind bars for his indiscretions, about which he complained to a vet when he convinced himself Christie wasn't 'enjoying it as much' when he did the dirty stuff with her
ST ANN'S BAY, St Ann A mother of seven and three of her sons are facing murder charges in relation to the death of a 17-year-old youth with whom the woman's daughter was said to have been involved in a relationship.
Charged for the murder of Brian Johnson are 36-year-old Reita Paige and her sons 18-year-old Odane Smith and two juveniles ages 16 and 14 all of Mansfield Heights better known as Fauklands in Ocho Rios, St Ann.
All four appeared in the St Ann's Bay Resident Magistrates Court yesterday where the mother and one of her juvenile sons were remanded until August 12.
The young boy, the court was told, had some mental problems and the presiding magistrates Carolyn Tai has ordered that he be assessed by a psychiatrist.
The other two accused sons, Odane Smith and his 14-year-old brother were each offered bail in the sum of $200,000 with surety. As a condition of their bail, they are to report to the Ocho Rios police on Mondays and Thursdays and a curfew was imposed on them.
The four are accused of using a knife and screwdrivers to inflict several stab wounds to Johnson's back, chest and head.
It is alleged that on July 7, at about 2:00 am, the 14-year-old girl and Johnson had a dispute at his house. The girl reportedly left and went to her home nearby where she reported the incident to family members.
According to information before the court, Paige and her three sons armed themselves with a knife and screwdrivers and went in search of Johnson. He was accosted on a roadway in the community after he was not found at his house.
The prosecution is alleging that all four launched an attack on Johnson stabbing him multiple times. The blade of the knife reportedly broke in the youth's chest.
THE capture in June of accused drug lord Christopher 'Dudus' Coke appears to have been facilitated by the police intercepting the telephone conversations of the Rev Al Miller, the pastor with whom Coke was travelling when he was held.
The revelation about the interception of Miller's conversations was made yesterday when the clergyman appeared a second time in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on charges of harbouring a fugitive and perverting the course of justice.
Miller's $200,000 bail was extended until September 23, after the court was informed that the police was still analysing recordings of phone conversations of Miller on June 22, the day Coke was arrested.
Speculations that Miller's phone may have been bugged started swirling following Coke's arrest after four weeks on the run eluding several police/military dragnets. Coke had been on the run since May 24 when members of the security forces entered his then barricaded stronghold of Tivoli Gardens.
The police had been trying to apprehend Coke for his extradition to the US to face drug and gunrunning charges.
Coke was arrested after the police intercepted Miller's vehicle along the Mandela Highway, close to the St Andrew/St Catherine border.
Miller, who heads the Fellowship Tabernacle in St Andrew, was not detained then, but was later asked by the police to turn himself in. He was charged following questioning. Miller said he was taking Coke to the US Embassy in Kingston.
The police said they had been trailing Miller's vehicle from St Ann.
"I simply got a call to deal with an issue...," Miller told congregants at a Sunday morning service. "It was an opportunity that is a response to prayer. I went, picked him up and was taking him to the authorities. Nothing more, nothing less."
Miller had also been instrumental in Coke's brother, Levity, turning himself over to the police. Livity has since been charged by the police.
HEAR WHAT OPRAH WINFREY HAD TO SAY ABOUT MEN If a man wants you, nothing can keep him away. If he doesn't want you, nothing can make him stay. Stop making excuses for a man and his behavior. Allow your intuition (or spirit) to save you from heartache. Stop trying to change yourself for a relationship that's not meant to be.
Slower is better. Never live your life for a man before you find what makes you truly happy.
If a relationship ends because the man was not treating you as you deserve then heck no, you can't 'be friends'. A friend wouldn't mistreat a friend. Don't settle.
If you feel like he is stringing you along, then he probably is Don't stay because you think 'it will get better' You'll be mad at yourself a year later for staying when things are not better. The only person you can control in a relationship is you.
Avoid men who've got a bunch of children by a bunch of different women.
He didn't marry them when he got them pregnant, why would he treat you any differently?
Always have your own set of friends separate from his. Maintain boundaries in how a guy treats you. If something bothers you, speak up.
Never let a man know everything.* He will use it against you later.
You cannot change a man's behavior.* Change comes from within.
Don't EVER make him feel he is more important than you are... Even if he has more education or in a better job.
Do not make him into a quasi-god. He is a man, nothing more nothing less. Never let a man define who you are. Never borrow someone else's man. A man will only treat you the way you ALLOW him to treat you.
All men are NOT dogs.
You should not be the one doing all the bending... Compromise is two way street.
You need time to heal between relationships... There is nothing cute about baggage.... Deal with your issues before pursuing a new relationship
You should never look for someone to COMPLETE you... A relationship consists of two WHOLE individuals... Look for someone complimentary...not supplementary.
Dating is fun...even if he doesn't turn out to be Mr. Right.
Make him miss you sometimes...when a man always know where you are, and you're always readily available to him - he takes it for granted
Never move into his mother's house. Never co-sign for a man.
Don't fully commit to a man who doesn't give you everything that you need.* Keep him in your radar but get to know others.
Scared of being alone is what makes a lot of women stay in relationships that are abusive or hurtful: Dr. Phil
You should know that: You're the best thing that could ever happen to anyone and if a man mistreats you, he'll miss out on a good thing. If he was attracted to you in the 1st place, just know that he's not the only one.

The New Zealand Herald said the teen-ager fell about 50 meters off the balcony, dropping through a carpark roof that may have broken his fall before he hit the concrete. Another tenant raised the alarm after seeing the boy fall past his window.
The newspaper said medical experts were amazed that the boy survived as few people managed to live if they plunged from more than five storeys.
The teen-ager was described as in a stable condition in an Auckland hospital with a broken wrist, broken rib, gashed leg and internal injuries, the New Zealand Herald reported.
"God must have been with him. He's got an angel looking after him, that's for sure," housekeeper Kaa Wehi, who was working in the building at the time, told the newspaper.

The bone phallus, unearthed by archeologists earlier this month, was found in mud on the banks of the Göta Canal near Motala in Sweden's Östergötland province, and is thought to between 6,000 and 8,000 years old.
'At first I thought it was just an antler that had been worked on and I was going to take a closer look at it. But when I held it up I wasnt able to stop laughing,' wrote Sara Gummesson, who discovered the putative dildo, on the team's blog.
The phallus, which measures about 11cm (just over 4 inches) long and around 2cm (just under an inch) wide, may have been used as a sex aid, the team have speculated - noting that while female sexual imagery is common among Stone Age finds, male fertility symbols are rare.
Swedish Heritage Board archeologist Goran Gruber trod a carefully non-commital dildo line, telling Swedish radio: 'We do think its at least some sort of phallus, but I couldnt say for sure what it was actually used for.'
And commenting on his Aardvarchaeology blog, Swedish archaeologist Dr. Martin Rundkvist noted that 'there are many non-dildoish uses for which it may have been intended,' but added that 'without doubt anyone alive at the time of its making would have seen the penile similarities just as easily as we do today.'
If it was indeed used as a sex toy, it has strong competition for the title of the world's oldest - with a stone phallus unearthed in Ulm, Germany in 2005 dating back at least 28,000 years.
While scientists from the University of Tubingen who studied the Ulm phallus remain unsure what it was used for - starting fires and sharpening flint tools have been suggested as non-rude uses - its lifelike size has raised the possibility that it was used as a sex aid.

When dancehall artiste L.A. Lewis' name started appearing on walls just about anywhere, he was laughed at by many. However, the graffiti tactic has slowly developed into a popular promotional method for aspiring and even established artistes.
If one should drive through Kingston, observing the walls in some of the most active areas, you will see the proof. At a bus stop by Hope Road, Kingston, the name 'Advoket' is plastered on the wall, and beside it rests another graffiti stating: 'Beenieman, the King of Dancehall."
All the way up in the hills of St Ann, THE STAR came upon bus stops bearing 'Gaza' and 'Gully' graffiti, even on a JUTC bus at the transport centre. Then, all along Hagley Park road there is 'Big Ship'.
It would appear that this method of spray-painting is a more effective at advertising artistes these days than the traditional posters, with a picture and contact number.
According to young dancehall artiste Grammazone, who has written his name on a few walls himself, it is cheaper to spray-paint the wall than to print fancy pictures. "Mi always a try get mi self out there, and so mi decide fi try the spray thing," he said.
easier to see
The artiste told THE STAR that the spray paint is easier to see and its more durable than flyers. "If dem nuh knock dung the wall, or paint it over, mi name ago always deh pon it," he said.
The concept of graffiti promotion was popularised by entertainer L.A. Lewis years ago. His name can be found on a large number of walls in the Corporate area. Lewis received numerous criticisms for his actions; however, it appears his promotional tactic have since hit a note with other artistes.
When THE STAR contacted Lewis, he said that he should be credited for what he instigated. "L.A. Lewis a di real genius, political parties all a use graffiti because a me. But me gone past that now, a cyberspace mi deh now," he said. "I'm a promotional genius, so even though they act like dem don't amuse by it, they still follow my pattern."
While these artistes are proud of their promotional idea, the police say that they can find themselves in trouble with the law. According to Special Constable Clarence Morrison of the May Pen Police Station, persons can be charged under section 46 of the National Solid Waste Management Act. Morrison explained that people that do these graffiti are in violation by displaying, whether by writing, marking or otherwise affixing anything in any public place, building, wall or fence, to deface it. "Persons are advised to desist from taking up that practice," he warned.
A man who was accused of hitting his baby mother with a board pleaded not guilty to the charge of assaulting a female when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate Court yesterday.
The accused, Gerald Reid told the court that the complainant is the mother of his children and they had a disagreement on July 15 which led the complainant to claim that he assaulted her.
Reid told the court that he received a call from the complainant on the day in question when she told him that his mother wanted to throw her out. When Reid arrived at the house, an argument developed between himself and the complainant and they exchanged harsh words but he did not hit her.
However, the complainant claimed that Reid had entered the house with a piece of board to hit her, she tried to avoid being hit but was unsuccessful and received a blow to her back.
abusive
The complainant also informed the court that she and Reid previously lived together but she moved out because he was abusive. She also pointed out that she now lives in the Liguanea area where her mother pays the rent for her accommodation because Reid does not offer sufficient financial support for his children.
Reid and the complainant were advised to communicate with a court-assigned probation officer and ordered to return to court on September 1.This year's Reggae Sumfest saw the Big Ship family pulling out all the stops, both in their performances and in their dramatic outfits.
On Thursday, Dancehall night, the grounds of Catherine Hall, Montego Bay, came alive to the sounds of Chino as he entered the stage in a full white outfit, reminiscent of 17th Century army fatigue, designed by ace-designer, Romeich. His strong, clear vocalsinundated the venue from the beginning to the end of his set, which included some of his mega hits: Before Dem Gone (which paid homage to O'Neil of Voicemail), From Mawnin', an ultra-sexy R&Bremix of Ruff It Up which had the ladies in the venue going wild, and more.
Another feature which created a wave of excitement throughout the venue was the emergence of captain of the 'ship', Freddie McGregor, who made a brief entry on his son's set. Then came yet another surprise, from Chino, the lieutenant of the musical ship. When the band started playing the intro for Protected, which also features brother and one of Jamaica's top producers, Stephen "Di Genius" McGregor, the crowd went wild with anticipation. When Di Genius made his entrance onstage there were thunderous roars from the audience for the enigmatic youngster who is rarely seen outside of the studio, let alone, doing performances. The two, then went into otherfan favourites including: Clap It And Drop It,Cyaa Friend Again, Naw Forgive and Cyaa Tek We Life.
